Default Itzkirb's garage door opener Mod

Just did the mod and have it installed works fine...

Question how do you tap into the power on the window buttons so you can get the garage button to lite up?

The existing Porsche connector (one white and one black) leaves little room to slide anything in there on the two end posts of the window switch...any suggestions?

ItzKirb said he was going to do it...but I haven't heard or seen anything about about it ...

Thx

Jim

The prep takes about a half an hour for soldering the wire leads to the board and about 15 minutes to install...

If you do the mod make sure you mask off the traces on the board before you solder. I didn't take any soldering classes in law skool so I'm not real good but I did get it done...also make sure that before you put the board into the center console to install a new battery and cover the board with a good cloth tape...like gaffer's tape...thus, preventing any possibility of shorting if the board touches metal.

Right now I don't have any power going to the switch for the light because I don't want to cut and splice into the line...so, I'm still trying to figure a way to bring the power to the new switch from another location.

I have the part number for the switch...the one that Kirb referenced for the Targa is a matte finish. Its not available in gloss finish like we have in our cars...so I used another one...Its $33.00 at Sunset.

If you need any help let me know...

Jim,

My car had an ashtray light that I disconnected when I removed the ashtray. If yours had one that connector should be powered whenever the car is on.

Always glad when my DIY can help someone out. All i Did to light the switch up was jam wire into the back of the Power Window switch and then taped it up. I know it's not very professional, but no one sees it and it works.

OK...there is the window switch and the connector to the window switch (one black one white)...

Am I understanding you correctly then that you took a wire and attached it to the window switch posts on both sides of the window switch and not into or onto the connector which brings power to the window switch?

BTW what gage wire did you use to bring power back to the G/door switch from the window switch?

Thx...

Good mod...

If you look on the back of the connectors to the window switch you can see some room for a wire to slide in. I just took the right outer post of the Garage Door switch and taped it into the right outer post of the Window switch conncetor...did the same with the left outer switch.

I used a really thick gauge wire since that is what i had laying around. You can use a thin wire I assume since the factory wires are pretty thin.

Hope that helps?

My damn garage door motor keeps flaking out on me. My mod would have to be a monkey in the trunk that runs out and opens the door for me.
