Default Strange jerking when cold...help!

When I put the car in reverse or first, especially after having been parked for a few hours or more, it surges sometimes very violently. Sometimes it happens when in reverse and then again when put into first. I can tell it does it (only less pronounced) in 2nd gear too. Giving the car extra throttle even with my left foot completely off the clutch pedal usually does NOT help at all. The jerking is very violent and it will do this up to 5-6 times in a rapid succession of jerking.

After the car warms up (usually after 10-15 min of driving) it goes away.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Thanks!

Sorry about the "misleading" title of the thread...don't get the wrong idea...lol Just didn't know how else to describe it.

Have you tried hand lotion?... sorry couldn't resist. But seriously, MAF maybe needs to be cleaned/replaced?

I knew after I posted that title that someone would come up with something clever....good job Pongo!

I had to look up what a MAF was first (sorry, new to Pcars). How big a job is this to clean or replace (hours)? I've seen them online for like $300...is this about right? Is there anyway to check to see if it's bad or dirty or do you just take a chance and hope that fixes the problem?

Thanks!

Here is a link to a thread that covers how to clean the MAF. Try cleaning it before you spend $300 to replace it.

Great to know Gota! Thanks, I doubt I'll try that myself, but will have shop do it while it's there next week. Hope that's all it is....
