The original question/post was in 2001......a lot has been learned between the 2 year models since then.....from bearings, to every single engine failure mode for both....I am very happy with my '99 (built 98)

Lurker question re: 99 LSD/TC
I have a 2002 C2 Cab, I love it, the driving experience has changed my life, literally!
I want to get a “real” coupe to go with it, I think the coupe is seriously good looking compared to the Cab which is not bad looking, just not as “pure” as the coupe. I’m hunting for a 99, I only want a 99, or else I’ll go overboard and get GT3 996.
A question if I may, to those with superior knowledge—I’m hunting for a 99 without TC, does that mean that it won’t have a factory LSD? Where those two only available as one option together in 99?
Side note: in Europe, there are 1998 996s.

Automatic braking differential, traction control, and limited slip were all grouped into one on a few that I have had. Don’t know if you could get them without each other.

So, they include ABD and an LSD with TC, or Does the ABD acts as an electronic “LSD” without a real LSD...?

My 99 has those options installed, and I have a TC button to disable TC on the dash, which I use and it works. I think some cars have PSM as an option as well, but I don’t remember what year that came out?

Do you need an LSD in these cars?
I have never felt the need for an LSD in this car at the track. But my car has very light track modifications maybe it's important for more serious track setups.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that even though my car was equipped with LSD at the factory, I’m not sure it’s still effective, hence my comments above. I’ve tried to test it by accelerating where one wheel was on ice, and the rear feels like an open diff.
