A possible issue to remember is how you are going to sell the car in the future . Assuming you put another 30-40,000 miles on it you may have a difficult time selling the car when you are ready to get something else. It's not that a 996 with 130,000 miles is a bad car - many 3.0 911 SC's run over 300k - but it may be very difficult to find a buyer at all, other than someone looking for a track car.

Well, theoretically, this will be my last car for a while. Julie and I are planning a move to the PNW sometime in '08. So I would be keeping it for at least that long, and probably longer. So if I can find a decent $30k car, use if for three or four years, then only be able to sell it for a little over half that...I'd be ok with that. (..as long as it's a good car for the next three years!)

Doug,

Walk away from it. With the mileage on that car, it should be deep in the $20's. I've seen ones in the 65K-75K range going for $28K. Starting off close to $35K is just crazy. Remember if that is the mileage going in, think about how hard it will be to sell it in a year or 2 with over 100K. You probably won't even be able to find a Porsche dealer who would take it as a trade.

I hope that link works...

What do you think about buying a high mileage (75k and up) 996 in general?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Doug, I agree with 02, I bought a well optioned '99 with 43K miles and 10K miles on a new engine for $31K, It took a couple of months to find it, but there are definitely better deals out there

106,000 miles on my 99 cab and it was obviously a daily driver. One previous owner and the engine replacement @ 58,000 miles due to oil/coolant mixing. As Riad had stated it is important to have a full service history regardless of mileage and a solid PPI from a reputable source. This car was serviced at Pepe Porsche from new and followed all regular maintenance as required.
