I'm curious to hear thoughts on this car. I love all aspects of it...accept for the mileage (of course). But if I can get it for closer to (or under?) $30k, what do you think? ...worth the risk?

What do you think about buying a high mileage (75k and up) 996 in general?

I would have no issues buying a 996 with high mileage. However, I think you can do much better in that price range than that car.

Making sure you have the fully maintenance history is very important, and you could save a bit of cash if you don't plan on driving the car all year round by getting a C2 instead of the AWD C4.

Well I'm looking to go back to one car for me, so a C4 is ideal. However, I drove my last Boxster in winter w/o any problems, so I wouldn't have a problem attempting to drive a C2 in winter with a good set of winter tires. (..which I already have..) Julie will still have her Subie for winter traveling.

I would ask for a significant amount off of that car, FYI. I'm hoping to find something right around $30k or under. Not many options immediately around me, but I'll be looking.

I too would have no problems with a 90K 996. I am sure lots of people will opine, but ~30K sounds decent.

Got to be under $30k and have good maint records for me.

My 996 has 90k and it runs great and burns zero oil. Just make sure it has been serviced regularly.

Excellent...love to hear from owners with high mileage cars.

Being a 2000 makes me feel a little better than a 1999 model. (..although, that's probably an unwarranted fear..) At least the interior quality will be a bit better than a '99.

The replies in this thread make me feel great about my recent purchase too. My 2000 996 C2 has much fewer miles, but I'm hoping to drive it for several years. It's good to hear that these cars are still reliable at high mileage and that people might still consider buying one.

I would buy a car with that kind of miles, but the price would have to reflect the milage.

I agree with the others. I'd have no problem buying that car after it passed an inspection. However, I think it should sell for a little less than the ask price.

Just for comparison sake, there is a an 01 C4 Cab w/ 76K miles for auction with a BIN at $35,900.

Yeah I wouldnt mind the mileage but I certainly wouldnt pay that price! In my eyes a C4 doesn't really command a premium over a C2 in the general market (here in Vancouver it's worth less!) and I think you could buy a car like that for $28,500 if you kept your eyes open on Ebay.

The premium for the C4 is regional, in the North East you will expect to pay more.
