It's a MY00 996 C2 that has for all intents and purposes had about 80% of the bodywork replaced Porsche OEM 997 bits.

He lives about 20 miles from me and I invited him to a local Porsche meet. The owner tells me it cost him about £9,000 that's about $16,700. It may seem alot but consider this: A MY00 996 in excellent condition and low miles would sell for about £34,000 here approx $75,000 (rough guess). A used 997 is about £60,000 = somethng like $140,000. So he got himself a 997 facelift cheap IMHO.
The job itself looks very good. However when you look up close you can see some faults. But them I guess I am very picky. The hardest part was fitting the door handles to the 996 doors. Reshaping the doors, sills and C pillar. It is not what I would care to do but you got to hand it to the guy, he was very brave and bold but in the end it has turned out to be good job. How he would go about selling it is another matter.

It was done by the owner and a friend of his. Not done by a professional shop! This amazed me as it really is a quite a good job and the paitwork aint bad either. Not perfect but not bad.

Some of the things he's done to achieve this are frightening. Spot welding bits into C pillars and doors and so on. Not to mention fitting the rear end of a 997 onto a 996 shell. It must be very difficult if not impossible to insure and I whould hate to think how it would stack up in a smash with all those spot welds. But thought you guys would be interested to see it anyhow. I will post up some before and during mod pics tommorow.

Cheers

Oh and BTW, I think it is the 1st full 997 body conversion done in the world as far as I know. So much so, it has just been in a photo shoot for the Porsche 911 World mag.
