Looks great! If you don't mind me asking, what did the install run you? I'm considering X73 for my C4S down the road and ballparking numbers for now.

Bos.....the X73/74 kit runs about $2500 plus install. Figure $500-1000 for install and alignment depending on your installers charges.

I had the X74 installed in my car about 3 weeks ago. I couldn't be happier. Price quoted above is about right, but I added GT3 sway bars as well.

The car feels better in every way, just a little extra scraping going into and out of parking garages.

If you're considering doing it, don't hesitate!

If the X74 is not for the '99s, then what is? Or can you run the X74 and take your chances/go get the engine protection plate ??

Thanks,
Grant

Based on the pictures, I'm surprised that there is so much concern over scraping in driveways and speed bumps. It still looks like there is a fair amount of space there, but obviously it's hard to tell unless you are there in person.

Do you have any speed bumps that you traverse on a regular basis? Do you have any driveway or speed bump scraping issues?

I'm also debating X74 vs. RoW M030 in a daily, 12-mo/year driver that has to deal with light snow in the winter. If the X74 is low enough, I could use it to plow my driveway as well!

I'm willing to shell out the extra $1500 or so in parts, but I do have a couple of speed humps on my road that I have to deal with every single day.

My understanding about X74 and 1999-2001 996's is that there was some chassis reinforcing that went on in the 2002+ cars that is necessary to handle the additional loads placed on it by the X74 suspension. But there are multiple reports of people putting this suspension on pre 2002 cars and I haven't heard of any problems yet through the forums.

The front lip on my car takes a bit of a beating in certain parking garages with steep ramps. Speed bumps, on the other hand, aren't a problem.

Our pleasure Alex.. I think you've come to us with just about every modern-day Porsche bar a Turbo? Seriously, I'm glad we got it sorted for you. Not sure why you were told that the X74 kit doesn't work on pre-02s as it obviously does but hey...

It's a considerable improvement over any R0W30/MO30 stuff in my opinion and also considerably lower. You got a helluva deal on those but otherwise I would have forced you to do JICs, PSS9s or JRZs (like on ours lol!).

HAHA.. If I was using this car for daily I would;ve gone with those..
X74 although rides great and handles well, IMO is not for daily..
thanks for the help Sharky..now i cant wait for my wheels..

I noticed my tires arent so great now, after the installation..lol
I have the new pole position RE050A, was fine in stock suspension now it's slipping on fast corners, maybe or I'm going to fast, hmmm

Suggestion to others If you have a daily driver 996 go for JIC,pss9 or JRZ's'
If out of the budget then go M030.. so either $1000 or $2000 in parts, your choice

I only got the X74 cause i got it for cheap, i mean less than what you'd pay for the M030..with your budget I suggest add another 3-500 for pss9, there was a sale few weeks ago in the $1800...have to look for that link.. Row m030 eliminates that floaty feeling in high speed and very stable it;s just not low enough IMO.. The dealer told me that the upper strut bearing in the 99-01 996 will not fit the X74..well they prob just looked at the part number they wee prob different in the books took it to Sharkwerks and it fits prefectly.. I also wondered since the pss9 kit only have one model for 99-04

It'll probably get lower as it settles.

Can you flesh out the reasons you'd go with PSS9's instead of X74 for a daily driver? That almost runs counterintuitive to what I would have assumed. I'd assume that a set it and forget it non-adjustable suspension would be more appropriate for street use and a multi-adjustable height/dampening setup would be more appropriate for a track-fiend.
