Default Just got My First 911!

Great day. Bought a 1999 996, Black on Black. It's the third car that I had inspected. 2 questions (many more to come):

1. Where can I find an owners manual?
2. My Key Remote does not work. Is there an option to buy another one other than from a dealer?
3. Also, I am going to need an extra key. Again, is there an option other than from a dealer?

Thanks.

Congrats, Its a real looker

Your dealer can do the keys for you. I've heard cost is around $300

I would check ebay for the manual.

Owner's manual can be downloaded from RennTech
http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...oads&showcat=6

Key & Key head can be purchased from dealership, and a programming is needed, so the part cost about $100-150, and you figure in another $100ish to pay for the labor... so $300 sounds right... remote key heads is available of sunset... probably the BEST price you can ever find...

Nice Black Beauty! Congrats!

I just got an extra remote key from the dealer for a total of $330.
I checked before and seems you can only get it done at the dealership.
Dealer told me keys bought off ebay are not able to be programmed by them,
it has to be a "virgin" key with its original code.

I bought my last two key heads from this ebay'er 2 for $150 I think took them to the dealer for programming and cutting. You have no other options. Call around if you have multiple dealers in your area the price may vary. BTW ONLY buy key heads on ebay if they have the tag that goes with the head. It can only be programmed with the info provided on that tag.

Default Key Charges while in use or Not?

This may be a dumb question, but the remote key on another one of my cars actually charges while in the car or in use. While in for warranty work, the dealer puts it into a key reader and gets all the info such as mileage and history off the key.

Do Porsche keys work the same way? I've got 2 keys. If I just use one and keep the other as a spare, is this key going to loose its charge? Thanks in advance.

No, Porsche keys do not get recharged while in use. They are powered by a small battery located in the "body" of the key.
