WOW, could this have been a launch car? Carfax has it first titled on 5/27/98. Now that is one old 996. The car has only had two owners, which is just amazing. I have seen 20k pcar with 4 owners. zero service history on carfax. Only other point is that it lived up in NY state and Maine. If only I had my own garage in the city!!

Just got back from a test drive of the car. It was on the way home from a regional office I was working at so I stopped in. The car is a bit rough and as yetis mentioned a two owner car with 70k miles spent up in Maine. It shows it because it has a beat up nose, rust bubbles on each door latch on the body, and beat up rims. the interior is pretty mint except for the lousy tint job on the rear window.

As for the rest, no visual signs or smells of any leaks, the car pulls hard and straight and the brakes and clutch felt fine. It has new tires as well. options: 220,114,222,424,490,659,688.

Jack, the sales dude was a nice guy but didn't know what an RMS was. I discussed it a bit with him and he said the car has all records and just had the 15K service. I didn't look at the records but he also has three other P-cars on the lot, Turbo, C4S and a Targa, all 2003. He'd have no problem having a PPI done as well.

Finally, he's holding tight to the 23K price. I didn't go in there with a wad of bills but pushed him on it a little bit and he said its on consignment and he's had a ton of calls so far. He's only had it for a few weeks so he's letting it stand for now.

I'm off to look at another tomorrow and will be at the LArs Anderson PCA show to see what might be for sale there. Otherwise I'll let this one sit for a bit.

Assuming someone has over 20% flexibility in their asking price is MORONIC. People like you amaze me.

A 23k 996 is a still. If you read the Euro Magazines, many owners are into the high mileage area with no problems. You're downside, drive it a year or two and then turn into a track car. My friend builds 996 C stock cars and they are a blast to Club Race with PCA and PBOC. He also runs one in Grand Am. Unbelievable cars in the $23-27k range!!!!

He's holding tight to 23K? What happened to being able to drop $4K at a used car lot?

Ha! I'm eating those words now!

After a while of discussing the price he told me it was on consignment so he doesn't even own the car.

Give it a while he'll come down.....

FYI, father-in-law in car business just picked up a 1999 Carrera 2 Coupe with 47k on it at auction for just over $17000. It needs a clutch. I'm trying to get him to part with it if it checks out with no RMS problems and I can sell my 1990 C4.

I've seen a few 100k+ mileage cars go in the low $20k range down here. But they tend to be really, really rough.
But, if you were looking for a track car, or were very mechanically adept...... (I am Not that adventurous)
