Installed AIR HORNS - pics

I just installed the GRIOT's Italian Air Horns on my 996 cab. I was never happy with the "pep boys" sounding standard horn on my car and knew I was going to go with air horns. I had them on my BMW and loved them. I read about the GRIOTS one and bought it right away. Let me tell you...LOUD is an understatement. The sound is very "Euro" exactly what I wanted...and its pretty loud.

This install as some of you know is a hassle because you have to remove the whole dang front bumper...that sucked. But...oh well...while we had the bumper off I also made a wire pull for my hood release just in case the car ever loses juice and I am locked out of my car, I have a pull that will release the hood.

That was the compressor for the air horns. I am telling you, these f*ckers are loud!

Hey AsianImage, here's a little table that I included in my post way back when I installed the air horns. The Italian Air Horns are louder than a pneumatic riveter and almost as loud as a jet taking off at 100'!!

I love it!!! I plan on replacing my stock bumper cover with a gt3 cover at some point, so this mod just got added to my list of things to do at the same time...

To answer some of the above..

the compression tool...is an air wrench. Is that what you are asking about? He used it to remove the nuts and bolts for the bumper. It is pretty extensive. Like 8 hex nuts, 4 8mm, etc etc...so there are a bunch if little screws here and there.

as for problems? None at all...except...if you have never taken it off before take your time. Luckily my installed did one other Porsche before, so he at least kind of knew where to look for bolts to remove the bumper. If you have never done it before, take you time. He said there are a couple "hidden" bolts etc. Like behind the side markers etc. But pretty straight forward. The other "problem" I can think of is the actual install. Obviously it is not plug and play. So you have to figure out a way to mount the new air horn. My pal had to bend some brackets and custom fit it. he also ran the wires and relay and fuse back into the body of the car so none of the important stuff is outside.

The GRIOTS airhorn is a VERY NICE PIECE...well worth the price. My buddy who has been an installer for many years was very impressed by it. The best part is the air compressor like mentioned above is actually built ON THE UNIT. Not like the Hella versions that come with the horn and a compressor and some hoses. He really liked these horns quality.

and lastly...YES! If you are doing any sort of bumper removal..upgrading or facelifting...I completely recommend doing this. It is the perfect time.

as for sound bytes...I have seen/heard others...still not acurrate enough...you got to be there in person to hear this thing! hahahaa...its pretty dang loud. And my buddy pointed out...it's UNIQUE. If I hear this going off in a parking lot...I will KNOW IT IS MY CAR. So that is another added bonus. If your factory alarm goes off...you will know it is you.

I installed the Griot's Italian Air Horns in my 930...and they are outstanding! No 18 wheeler will ever fail to hear you if he starts moving into your lane!! I think the red ones (there are 2 models...red and black) are rated at 130 decibles....VERY LOUD...and they also have that two-tone euro sound. They have the whole setup complete with the selfo-contained air compressor packed into a small package...easy to mount....recommend highly.
