Default Curios - Other Porsche Model ?

Just curios, if you were going to have a 2nd Porsche (other than 996/997), what would it be ? 914, 924, S, Turbo, RS, 944, S, Turbo, RS, 968, 993 ?

Was looking at recent article on the low price of 924/944's and thought that may be a cool car to buy and do some fun mods to. (There's also a red 944 Turbo for sale around the corner.)

I had a 944 Turbo years ago, and absolutely loved it. It was a daily driver year round in Chicago until one morning when some idiot turned across three lanes of traffic on lake shore drive and nearly pushed me into a group of tailgaters on opening day at Soldier field... The car was repaired, but not quite the same, so it was sold. Sorry for the digression... but it was a great car and I would definitely have another. As far as other models - if it were a perfect world, everyone would have a p-car and I'd have one of each! Oh yeah, did I mention the guy that hit me had no insurance and fled the scene...

any of them are great cars depending on what you are looking for. However, a pre 1989.5 911 is the true essence of the marque....IMHO. I have 3 Pcars right now and have had quite few over 30 years. Somehow that VW like feel with the kick in the rear still gives me a rush like no other. Sorry if the VW reference offends anyone, but my first car was a 59 VW bug with 32 HP, imagine the difference in that and the 400+ RWP I had in this one

993 3.8 RS or 964 RS clone.

Yes, the 944 would be fun and relatively inexpensive. I also like the way they look.

Slant nose 930 would be my next choice.

If not that, then any mid-'80's 911 would be good.

I've had just about every 944 variant you can buy, including the Turbo S.

All of them, regardless of condition, have been higher maintenance than the three 911s I have owned. The Turbo S was by far the worse!

They are fun cars, but not as robust as the 911.

What to buy? That depends on what you want out of it. Me, I would probably opt for an early 70's 911S Targa.

993 C2S or Turbo. Or an SC, if there are more budget constraints in place. The styling and sound of the 993 (or really, any air cooled 911s) are awesome. 964 seems a bit heavy, though. Want to drive one some time. It's likely I'll end up buying one of the above in a few years - dunno that a 993 will be in my budget, though, but an SC definitely should be!

CGT and 959 are excluded, right?

A 944 would be fun, but if I were in the mood for 80's German car maintenance, I'd buy a 635CSi again... What a fantastic car.

My dad has a 1967 911 S in Polo Red that's absolutely perfect. He drives it most weekends. What a great car! Wish I could find a better photo...

Hmm, let me think about it and I'll get back to you...
...Nah, can't agree with even one on that list....

All I can say is there is no such thing as a "cheap" Porsche. You can get a $3k '87 944na, and still dump $5k into it fixing it back up to spec!
Trust me, I know!!

Early 1990's 911 Turbo. Love that body style.

I'd take an old 911S from the late sixties-early seventies.

Like I said, just curious, but to Dave Howerdel, I inadvertently left the 928 off and see that you have 2 or 3 928S's but wouldn't be interested in the other front engine models. Any reason ? Do you like the 928 ? I always did have an interest in them and it may be a good first Porsche for my wife, although I always liked the look of a 944 Turbo as well.

+1

I'd get a 1991 or 1992 911 Turbo.
