Default Upgrading to 997. How much can I get for this black/black 996? (pic)

After a much thought, I decided not to change my 996 to a BMW M6. Even though I had my 996 for years, I don't think I could live without that engine growling of P-cars. I don't know how tough it is to sell high-end cars like ours in the market, but I think wanting 911s to actually writing a check is a long way. Almost every guy I know wants one, but in the end either their gf's or wives put a stop. And when they actually find out how expensive even these pre-owned 911s are, not to mention the high insurance costs, they start to look at other models, with 4 doors and more economical and practical cars... brand new BMW 5-series or Mercedes E-class, etc. I still owe $30,000 approx.

I am thinking about getting a white 997. All my cars are black/black, but a 997 I saw on the Santa Monica freeway looked pretty good.

A pic of my stock 996 (2001 black/black Tip 26K miles, always garaged) is attached. Can't believe these cars still look good after all these years. Took me a while trying to resize the pic.

Cheers

Is it really worth going into debt to get the improvements of a 997? Your car is in great shape, only has 26k miles, and will be paid for a lot sooner than a 997.

Of course, if you want a 6-speed, in place of your automatic, I can maybe see upgrading to a MKII 996. I'm just not a fan of the 997.

You know how it is... After a while you can get bored even with playmates. Over the years you learn every curves on her, and being a guy, your eyes start to wander looking for a different shape of curves. That's how it is for me with my 996. Most of my guy friends can't tell 996 apart from 997... obviously they don't own one. So even if I get a new 997, most folks around me wouldn't even know it, but I'm getting one for my own satisfaction.

I want a 997 because it's got wider hips. Not too crazy about the VW Beetle like headlights though. I still like the 2002 - 2005 996 headlights the best. Oh, the other thing is the warranty. Mine is without one now.

How did you get your 2000 996 mileage so low at 19K? it looks great. Not your primary car, I take it.

Cheers.

A car broker told me that Kelly Blue Book valuation doesn't really apply in real life. Can anyone tell me how much this black 996 tip 26k miles could sell for?

Wow that thing is clean! Have you started 997 shopping yet! Good luck with the sale, check the trader and such for comparable values!

I paid up for a car with very low miles, so it would be nice and fresh inside and out! No, it's not my primary car by a longshot! Which is why I wont be getting bored with it for some time.

You like the 997 interior? I think it looks too much like any new car with the sharp angles and fake aluminum all over the place. I think the 996 interior is classic, as in, it will be "in" even when the fake aluminum look is out!

Default Market point of comparison

Two weeks ago I bought a 2001 911 2C - black on black just like yours. 18" Turbo-twist wheels, 32.5K miles, pristine condition. It's a 6-speed. I ended up paying $33,500 from a dealer.

I'm in agreement with Andy on this one.

How bout grabbing an '02+ C4S? Big ***, and your out of pocket won't be so much. Maybe a CPO for piece of mind. I recently purchased an '02 C4S CPO with 35K on the clock for 42.5K. A smokin hot deal, and I haven't seen one that cheap nationwide since I bought, but there are a bunch for great deals.

I upgraded to a 997S from a 996 C4.
Its a very different car to drive... and really looks right (stance, ride height curves etc)

I sold my 2001 C4 cab private party for $41k with 21,000 miles on it. KBB was much higher, but i got no hits at KKB prices, i lowered the price till i found the interest. Craigslist also has a lot or cars listed so you can see the average asking prices

That's an awesome find! A year newer than mine, double the miles, but $6k cheaper! I guess I should have waited 6 months to buy my car! Nah!

The dealer was asking $39,995 when I initially looked at it. Given the RMS and engine failures on the 3.4L, I also wanted a solid warranty and they quoted $4,500 for 'platinum' coverage. I decided $40-42K was just too expensive and walked away. Imagine my surprise and delight when the car appeared on E-Bay two days later with a reserve of $33,495! (They also sold me the platinum warranty for $3,500 rather than $4,500.)

Guess I better take some pics and get them posted.
