Default Hard Top

I just installed my top and I'm sad to think that the top down days are gone till spring. However, It's exciting to see the car looking so different. Having a cab with the hard top is like having 3 unique cars.

Did you guys catch that. Three cars for the price of one! That's better than any deal my wife ever found

MikeZ, how is the sound reduction with the hard top on ? Does the hard top rattle or squeak ? I've considered a cab but the increased noise put me of. Gorgeous car BTW

The noise is significantly reduced compared to both soft top up or down. I have minimal squeaks much like when the soft top is down (but it is down with the HT on). My HT does not seem to add any additional noise to the ride. It does somewhat mute the PSE.

I've read that the hardtop was a no-cost option of 996 cabs - why doesn't everyone have one?

I believe most cabs are sold with "hard top delete", which does save $. I bought my HT a couple of years after owning my 2003. Dealer had one sitting in the service area for the two years in just the right color. I got a bargan to take it off their hands. Glad I did.

I think 2003 was the last year that the hard top was included in the price of the car. The noises are usually caused by dry seals--dry lube solves the problem. I have enjoyed the hard top during NW winters with so much rain, etc. Not necessary--just a nice feature.

Love hardtops. I'm going to have to post a picture with mine on as well since I just did it a couple weeks back. Indicidentally, temps down in the 30s at night in New York. Winter tire time this weekend.

Default Hardtops are great

When I go on a long roadtrip or on a trip with the wife, I put the hardtop on the car. It makes it quite a bit quieter, and in the desert it makes it cooler. Plus the aerodynamics are changed for the better and gas mileage goes way up. On my last cross-country trip, I got 29.7 mpg for 6000 miles at an average speed of 71 mph. Can't beat that!

I'm glad to hear Orient Express talk about the better mileage. I thought I noticed 10-15% better mileage with the hardtop on--but didn't believe my own estimates. I see 29-30 cruising with the hardtop on; 26-28 with the soft top up.

Correct, you got a ~$1400 credit for deleting the hardtop. The 997 doesn't even come w/the hardware for it on the car, plus you need to torque it down to specific spec, not just turn until it clicks.

I love the look w/the hardtop.

The EZ way to put it on ( EZ top )
