Default My car finally broke!

Well it finally happened, I have put about 25k on her and she finally broke. See this thread to find out what happened. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/381574-stuck-in-3rd-shifter-feels-disconnected-cannot-move-left-right-or-change-gear.html
On the way home from work, shifted out of first to second and into third, when nothing from the shifter. Stuck in 3rd gear with no east west movement. Havent had a chance to get under it, because its raining heavily out here. Hopefully disconnected and not snapped. Well see tomorrow!

The odds are that the same thing that happened in the "linked" thread happened to your car. With any luck, the cable clip came loose and the cable itself did not break. Good luck and keep us posted.

Doesnt' sound like a major problem, just be glad it is not a cloud of white smoke from the rear of the car.

Agreed, IMO this could be 100 times worse. I thought it was creepy that I commented on the thread and it happened. Im glad I requested the DIY at the time. Crazy how things work out! Ill jump under it after work and give you a heads up!

The exact thing happened to my car. It was the shift cable that broke.

Either shift cable breaking or the ball joint just popped off.
If it popped off just push it back on again and you're good to go.

Ok, so I contacted the shop and they sent me the cables. Turns out wrong cables but didnt realize until the installation. They sent me 996.424.041.10 and I ordered 996.424.041.08. The linkage on the end of the cables is different. I bought them for a lower price at a porsche mechanic and he doesnt have the other.

Please help me find 996.424.041.08 or I have been told 996.424.041.09 will work as well.
