Default Seat cushion removal

I've tracked down the source of my malfuntioning seat heater to a damaged element in the bottom cushion of the seat. Does anyone have tips on the removal?

Thanks,

Shawn

Disregard, I figured it out. For anyone wondering, there are two white clips under the front edge of the seat. There is a "pin" that goes through it into the base. Pull on the pin to release the rivet. Then pry the white clip away from the base and it will pop out releasing the front edge of the seat. The back edge is just wedge in and can be slid out.

The same applies to the upper backrest portion of the seat. That backrest insert is just clipped to a wire loop that runs around the edge...you can unclip those white plastic clips and remove the backrest portion. Why you'd want to do that beats me....but I broke the top clips on my backrest portion using one of those aftermarket pump up lumbar rests (pumped it up too much) so I had to replace the clip frame on the backrest part.

If you want some detailed instructions for the seat chshion, etc. try this link:

http://www.dennisvogel.com/heatedseats/index.html

Dennis Vogel has a project to install heated seat in a boxster, I used it for my 996. Lot of info.

Old thread, quick question: I am going to reupholster the seat part of my 996. Eventually I might add heater, but not now. I need to buy the foam, the price is the same for heated version or non heated. I assume I can buy the heated version so is there for when I decide add the heated feature? Both pads looks the same other than that.

Yes, you will need to buy the foam for the heated seat. This version has room in it for the heating element.

Thanks. Do I need to buy the heating element if I use the pad with room for it? Or, will the pad for heating, collapse if I dont "fill it" with the heating element?

The heating elements are very thin and actually sit on top of the pad.

Take a look through this thread:

If you but new foam for heated seats, the foam has the heaters and the wiring preinstalled. The heated foams fit the non-heated seats just fine. The cost is virtually the same. The edges (for lack of a better term) of the new foam are sharper than the old foams so the crease lines in the seats are slightly more pronounced. I do not believe the softer-edge foams are available new any longer.

I guess both heated and non-heated new pads will have the same "hard-edge", too. Perhaps is possible to cut a bit of the foam to soften the edge, comparing it with the old one to be removed.
