Default this is why a PPI is important

this guy's problems could probably have been avoided outright if he had a PPI done before giving the dealership a cashier's check for the car.

I would think a test drive would detect a shot 2nd gear, no? That really su@ks! The car looked so clean and cared for. I guess missing a shift with a turbo really kills the tranny.

I would have also researched the warranty company too. But I guess in the excitement of buying a 911 Turbo, things get missed.

The advert itself said that they welcomed a PPI by someone else...

Doesn't sound like it.

After seeing this car and reading about the dealership, we agreed on a price. I knew the car had to be in good shape judging by this description of how they're maintained.

I agree on the need for a PPI. To state that he made a judgment based upon the claims in the sale ad is really puzzling coming from a guy who sounds very literate in his web site complaint.

I do not understand, though, why this buyer has no recourse along the lines of the seller not delivering on the contract: i.e. the car was advertised with a warranty that did not exist.

2nd gear pop out is a problem on some 996TT. That is one of the big things to check on these cars and simple to do. Just get up to speed and lift of the accelerator and that will tell you if its bad. Somebody didnt do their homework of what to look for.

2nd gear pop out is not just a TT issue - effects earlier 996 models more than we'd all like to see

I have met a couple of 996 owners with exactly this issue, both non TT

test drive would clearly spot the issue

Why did they charge $2600 and change to remove the engine along with the transmission?

If I am reading the following page correctly, he states that he did have a PPI done at Baker Motor Company, the Porsche dealer in Charleston:

http://reddit.com/user/powlette/

And while wasting even more time, here is an article about the buyer, Mario and what can happen when a business does not own its domain name:

Ouch - there's one dealer getting what they deserved. Actually nice to see. I imagine everyone has at least one story of getting screwed by a dealer (I know I have)...

I've heard of this issue on 996 c2,996 tt & Boxster S. Is it possible that Porsche just built faulty 2-gear syncros and put them in all their 6-spds?

Do 996 gt2 and gt3s have this problem?
