Default Driver side vent won't come out...

I need to replace my ignition switch and have all the DIY instructions. I have the 3 screws out, headlight bezel & nut off and the vent is still secured up near the A pillar.

No one ever comments about a clip or fastening point up at the top of the vent. I don't want to pull and break something. It does seem to be connected at the top somehow. All the pics and instructions do not show or mention one though...

Is there another fastener I am missing or should I just grab "a bigger hammer" i.e. pull harder?

TIA

Rotate the air deflector to horizontal and then work it out.

Thanks for the reply.

Just tried that with no luck. Turn the louvers up and down and side to side. Also tried the dial left to right just in case. Something is still holding the top of the vent in place.

I have removed my vents several times on both of my 996 cars and IIRC there is only 2 screws on the exterior and one under the switch cover. The louver inside that directs the flow of air needs to be positioned correctly to make it out and the vent itself has to be "worked" a little to come out. What resistance are you feeling? Like you missed a screw?

It feels like there is clip underneath the top part of the vent right where it meets the other trim pc coming up from the back top dash to the base of the "A" pillar. I tried to push down on the top of the vent to maybe release and hook type clip but no luck. I am reluctant to pry upwards. When I try and pull it straight out or even swinging it upwards a bit, same result.

I will go at it again and see. The back vent tube is loose side to side and I know it is scewed in from the middle inside.

Thanks again for the reply.

After the three screws were out, I had to "work" mine out by slowly wiggling it while pulling (boy, that really sounded bad after I read it...). There was some sticky back foam insulation, that was more sticky than foam, preventing the vent from coming loose initially.

Yea Hah !

Wiggled it back and forth while pulling. I got it out. There is a clip in the back that stays on the dash side the the vent slides into.

Thanks to all for your advise. Now to get on with the switch.

As Don said, if you just pull and wiggle it a bit it comes right out!
