My 944 was my first car at 21. I really wanted the New Boxster when it came out in 97 but settled for the older 944 until I bought a boxster at 27. I hope to get a 997 in 4 years or so.

18, bought a 67' 911 coupe for $2,400 in 1973. Now 35 years later I am on my sixth car. Had the 67', then a 69' 911E Targa with a soft rear window, 76' 911S Targa, a 79' 928, a 82' 928S and now a 2000 C4 Cab. Still lovin them.

The 4S is an excellent choice! One of the most sought after 911's outside of the turbo. 2003 is one of my favorite 996 years! You get the 3rd radiator, bigger brakes, lowered suspension, great looks. The interior is really nice.
I paid $42k for my 2004.5 with 65k miles on it (private party), so your price is reasonable.
Personally, I think the styling of the 997 has lost something.
