Default Speeding Ticket - Advice Needed

Well, the inevitable has occurred. After washing my car I decided to go on one of my favorite drives across the GG bridge, up through Marin to Mt Tam and back. Just after crossing the bridge, a motorcycle cop pulled over another motorist and me at the same time. He gave us both speeding tickets for 80 in a 55.

The curious part is that the ticket does not say how the speed was calculated, i.e. radar, laser, etc. I presume he paced both of us because we had literally just crossed the bridge and there wasn't room to use radar or laser.

So a few questions for any lawyers in the group...
1) Can an officer pace two separate cars at the same time and write citations to each?
2) Is it worth showing up in court to see if I can get it thrown out? I have a clean record without a violation in the past 18 months and can probably take a driving class to get take the points off.

Any advice is appreciated.

this link (and 25 bucks) got me out of a ticket over a year ago..... http://www.ticketassassin.com/
I have been good, but a couple of weeks ago...the village people **** cop got me again...why they have to laser a P-car in when everybody is going the same speed puzzles me...but whatever.... I fight this one as well.

Read the message on the site..what they tell you is that speed limits are advisory in CA, which means that if you feel you were not endangering others you are okay....AND the road has to be surveyed within the last 5 years otherwise it is an illegal speed trap....

Anyway...NO affiliations with the site..just a happy costumer...cut and pas the letter..change the street names, etc

goodluck.

Q: was it a 2 tane or 4 lane road?
Q: was there a solid or broken center line?
reason is, on a 2 lane raod with a broken center line it IS LEAGAL to speed in order to pass another vehicle... if some how that applies, you could have just finished passing and not have slowed back down yet... this has worked for me in the past

cool site

The other side of the coin is that you pay the fine, use your "keep the violation off your record" card to take the online traffic school, and pay better attention next time you are playing.

Take the school and drive easy for 18 months. Simplest route here.

First find out what notes the officer made on the ticket to "tickle" his memory when he might have to show up in court and support his ticket writing reasons.

Damn, wish I had seen this a few months ago.

Another tip that might help is to go to the city works dept and pull a copy of the speed survey that the city used to justify the speed limit on that street.

Good luck!

+100 on Ticket Assassin, that method has gotten me out of 2 tickets plus one more for my wife.

California is the only state that has "trial by written declaration". Very cool deal, you can request another "trial de novo" even if you're found guilty by written declaration.

Check it out, at worst you'll loss $25 but you'll learn a lot!

Don't take the school for a speeding ticket.

Most jurisdictions allow school ONE time in THREE years. Use it for something more painful, like running a red light/stop, speeding in school zone (hope not), but not a speeding violation you are likely to talk your way out of in court.

Just my two cents.

I vouch for the Ticket Assassin. It has helped me before with a paced, BS ticket.

Interesting, I knew you guys would have some good advice - many thanks for the info. I'll see how far I can get with the ticket assassin (hilarious name btw).

Ivangene, to answer your questions, it was an eight-lane road with a center divider so I may be able to use your method as well.

Thanks all!

I was going to recommend one of those ticket attorneys but since you were only 25 over I wouldn't worry with an attorney (and I am one).
