(By the way, is there an easy way to do nationwide searches on Craigslist? I've never managed to figure out how to do that, and always resort to having to search each city individually).

Easiest way I've found to search craigslist.

Wow,

Prices have really declined for the 996's. Well, I guess we should just drive our cars as keeping them low mileage isn't going to account for our depreciation rate. I wonder where the bottom will be for the 996?

a lil above the boxster's bottom end. so between 15-20g. maybe less for higher milage(125k+) and some work needed. cause price wise, 968/986-996-987/87c-997. i'm not counting true collectibles or cars over 20. though 944's still hold well as entrance level from 3,500+

So my suggestion that it was hard to find a 996 in decent shape for under $20k was ridiculous, as was searching on autotrader (which turned up 2 996's under 20k), and craigslist with it's far clunkier interface turns up 2 of them as well... I am always up for a deal but there aren't a slew of sub $20k 996s around. I still have yet to see a 996 twin for under $30k. Find me one and I'll buy it, you keep the difference, seriously.

As an update, I contacted the guy selling the 1999 C2 above. He had decided to not sell his car, even without any negotiation on his asking price.

Even though I'm looking, I have to agree. 996s ought to be worth more than high teens IMO.

I had been looking to replace my 964 for a while and I finally decided that the prices of the 996s had gotten low enough for me to pull the trigger. I may be singing a different tune if the prices continue to drop over the next six months but for the record...

Yeah, C4S is desirable and a bit different.

Enjoy!

66k mile 2001 6spd 996 cab in Silver/Black with $23k worth of factory options and 997 lobster wheels for $19,500 sold in Los Angeles last week. Asking price was $26k. These are incredible cars for the money!!!! Three years ago I paid $21k for my 1999 black cab. loaded with options. Love it!! I've had a few issues like the alternator, top latch and airbag light. Exxxxxpensive to repair, that is wht tt prices are so low too. Avg. mile nice TTs in the $30s are commonplace is SoCal now.
