Default Fixed wing alarm at speed help

I recently added a fixed factory wing, with new fan etc. My rear hatch alarm comes on at speed but goes off when I stop. Is there a DIY wiring fix, does it require dealer to change something with PTST2, or should I just take the bulb out?

Did you change the wiring harness when you switched the wing?

Yes, the fan and the new harness. I'm pretty sure it's due to the micro switch for the two 3rd brake lights on the stock setup. My indie did the work, said he had solved it, but NOT. He told me to just take the bulb out or bring it by and he would. Too many guys have done this upgrade for it to be this hard.

He messed something up there, as the light shouldn't come on. Taking out the bulb is not the solution, it just hides the problem.

That's what I would say - that or they just didn't install it correctly. Anyone that thinks that pulling a bulb is a valid solution to the problem should not be trusted with your car.

He is much better with the older cars, doesn't have a PTST2, but can fix most things. He didn't charge me for putting the wing on after the paint shop finished it. All he charged me was for the fan and harness. I think he tired of trying to fix it. I can see where he spliced some wires in the new harness, but looks like he put it back the way it was originally. He didn't BS me though, just said he couldn't turn it off and offered to take the bulb out if I wanted him to. The micro switch for the two brake lights is gone, and in the box with the old engine cover. I may have to go to the dealer, but I sure hope not. I hate that place. I have Durametric and the factory manuals, so I will try and figure out the wiring myself first.

yup. sounds like he screwed up. it's as easy as taking the old harness out and putting in the new one. There shouldn't have been any splicing.

I'm curios, why did you replace the fan? That along with most of the other hardware should have been a direct swap from one deck lid to the other.

This wing was from a factory GT3, although I didn't know that, but really should have, until the fan didn't fit. I bought it from a guy on Rennlist. The fan location is different and a slightly different size.

The air intake is on the wrong side as well, did your guy take care of that???

That was my first thought also... that wing is not meant to be on that car.

I guess he's a lot better at mechanical stuff. I bought the wing from a Rennlister probably 18 months ago, can't remember who, but I'm sure the messages are still in PM. He didn't mention it was a GT3 wing, or perhaps I wasn't paying attention. I did notice some unusual markings and a serial number plate when I got it, b ut just left it in the box down in the basement. I had neglected getting it put on until now, even though I put the front bumper and skirts on 2 years ago. Bad story for another day. Anyway, it does look great though, and maybe that's why I can't turn the alarm off. Jim probably bought the correct harness for the wing and it doesn't match with the car.

I found the PMs. The seller only said it was a Taco wing..........no other nomenclature was mentioned by him or me.

Got a pic of the inside of the lid installed on your car? Just want to make sure the air intake is ok

No, but I can take one. The rubber piece fits nicely over the air intake when you drop the lid though.
