Default Improved Clutch Action Dramatically - A year later?

I was just curious, out of all the people that removed the helper spring from their clutch pedals (see thread with the above title), how many of you left the springs out?

I took mine out briefly, then returned it when my leg complained in traffic! Driving the '78 Targa reminded me what a nice sports car clutch should feel like, so I'm thinking of removing my spring yet again!

Anyone who complains about the difficulty of depressing the 996 clutch without the spring should do one additional mod that will eliminate the problem.

Andy, I have some replacement springs (in place of the OEM)... the replacement spring is only strong enough to get rid of the pedal slop and wont aid in making the pedal soft.... PM me if you are gonna do the mod and Ill send it to ya.

Thanks Red, but if I take out the spring, part of the joy is not having the squeaks and creaks. Putting in a soft spring would increase effort, and still have that spring assembly making noises. Plus, if I wanted to go back to spring assist, getting the hard spring back into the housing is near impossible. Easier to just leave it as is and put it back in.

When I rebuilt mine, I did not re-install the helper spring. I have had it on the road for over a year and it feels like a sports car should (other than I still need to replace my clutch).

I wonder if Porsche designed the car to run without the spring, got complaints, and retrofitted the helper unit after '98? Or was it designed with a heavy clutch pedal and helper spring? If that's the case, why not design a lighter clutch pedal, so you don't need a spring unit? Confusing.
