Default 996 3.6 engine

I have a 3.6 996 engine complete. new in the crate from Porsche. The engine comes with a 2 year waranty from Porsche. There is a core charge over the price but, I am offering this engine at $11,101.00 plus shipping and core charge (which will be returned to the buyer if Porsche issues the core credit).

p.m. me if you have an interest.

If the engine is new that is a good price for a 3.6, but if it is remanufactured, 3.6 are about $8,500 plus core at Sunset and Suncoast. The 3.4 are over $11,000.

For my own curiosity and knowledge, after reading your response, I called Sunset Porsche. Reman price is 10,560.81 with a core charge of 2,951.00. I will reduce the price to $10,560.81.
New in the crate with a two year warranty. And yes...The 3.4 cost more than the 3.6

Why does the 3.4 cost more?

My guess would be because it has been out of production longer and there are fewer of them remaining.

I had not checked the pricing since last fall when my engine suffered intermix. At that time the 3.6 was $8,400, 3.6 X51 was $9,600 and the 3.4 was $11,010. If the 3.6 is up to $10,560 I hate to even think what the 3.4 is now. It seems as the price of 996 rapidly falls the price of parts, especially engines is going sky high. Good luck with your sale, the are alot of owners out there in need of engines.

According to Porsche. The 3.4 engines are now out of any warranty claims. This allows Porsche to raise the price of the engine. Internal financial stuff. The 3.6 engines still, depending on year of manufacture, are still cover, keeping the price of the 3.6 down a bit.

If you have an '00+ (egas) 996, can't you reflash the DME and have it adapt it to a 3.6L? I heard its easy to do. You have to add vario cam but its separate.

no issue... the variocam + is triggered by another controller. There are a couple of people who's done it here... also, an x51 track car.
