Default Finally installed my B&M SSK

Well, after it sat in my garage for.. a long time I installed it this morning.
B&M in a 997 shifter.
Just took a very short test drive, Notchy and the effort is much higher so I guess it will take some getting accustomed too but the throws are awesome!

So now you guys can stop abusing me.. we at least about the SSK

Off to work on some other car stuff and enjoy playing hooky from work today.

Here is the proof

Yes Tim, I really installed it, it's my car.

Just wait a month or so and go drive a 996 with a stock shifter. You'll be like, wow, I'm shifting a bus.

FWIW, on the track going from 2-3 is MUCH better with the SSK.

You should probably not have mentioned that

Mine was already installed in a 997 cage so the install was really quick and easy.

Just came back from a drive, I am sold. Feels great and the best part is the "rubbery" feeling is gone. That always annoyed me more than the long throws.

I wish I would have installed this months ago, I missed out.

Nice Marc!!

What do you all think of this:

I was gonna install one, but a guy at a very reputable Porsche trans rebuild shop (won't mention who it is, PM me if you want to know), advised that a SSK is not the best thing for the syncros. The reasoning is, the shorter throws are asking the trans to shift quicker, which in turn ask the syncros to match speeds quicker causing accelerated wear.

Thoughts? Don't want to hijack this thread, maybe I'll start another...

Sure just piss on my parade

Seriously, I have heard that before but there are just to many people running these and I would imagine as long are you drive correctly there should be no issue. all you are doing is reducing the throw, I don't think you are really shifting that much quicker unless you beat on it and that can easily be done with the stock setup.

Others more educated than I on this can weigh in.

Find a used shifter and use that one, than you can always go back.

Get ready to pay

http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p96164.htm

If you get it you can lightly sand off the 40 jahre script if you do not want that.
It stays silver and looks great.
