Kind of off topic, but it's a good thing I wasn't driving the Porsche! I was on the Turnpike Extension heading to work in Jersey City. Traffic stopped, and the guy in the large SUV didn't. Hit my Accord at about 10 mph, did $1500 worth of bumper damage.

The point of this thread - when I got the car back from the body shop last night, I noticed the painted area was a different color than the rest of the car! The body shop guy said something about new paint being shinier. I said I would be back. Check this out - I'm not crazy, right?

I think it has something to do with painting plastic. With metallic paint (which are a b*tch to match) the paint lays different on metal than what is does on plastic. There are times I look at my front bumper and it doesn't match the rest of the car. Its all how the light hits the car.

A decent body shop should be able to blend it so it looks right, bring it back.
When I had th aero kit put on my car I could see no difference between panels.

Andy, I'm glad that the damage wasn't worse - did you suffer any injury at all? I know 10 mph doesn't sound like much, but a whack from the back could jolt your neck a bit.

Thanks , no neck issues, it was a bump, not really a whack. And the Honda seats are very supportive - Tim knows what I mean, right Tim?

Yes, they are pretty good seats with high headrests.

Sorry to see that they didn't match the paint as well as they should have. It's hard to tell from the pics, but it almost looks like two different paint colors...... close, but not an exact match.

OH, sorry... seriously glad you are OK, accidents suck!
get a really good body shop to check it out. My p-car was hit at < 5mph in the side fender and it was a couple grand to set it right, turned out I didnt notice the wheel was scuffed and the alignment off a tad (had it aligned 2 weeks earlier so knew exactly where it should have been)

get it checked, get it fixed, be glad you are OK and stop posting Honda crap on here

Thanks Ed, it was really a fender bender (or bumper bender), going really slowly in traffic that I deal with every morning.

I got it fixed, they replaced the entire bumper and repaired the edge of the trunk that was dented in. This body shop came recommended by several co-workers. Too bad they got the color wrong, and I'll have to ask them to re-do it.

If body shops can take a 10 year old car and match the paint perfectly. They can do the Honda right. Take it back.

When we do bumpers and other trim like this, it is imperative to test various versions of the formula to match. On most metallics, there is a 'standard' then a 'lighter/bluer/blacker/darker/more red, more yellow/etc' variance. Until 3 sets of eyes agree on the match in daylight, you're not done.

Even then, mistakes can be made. A higher end painter with 20+ years of talent should be able to get this on the money. Find a better shop, or go see the owner of the place who did this, and show him how far off the painter was. It should never be that far off.
