Default Led Taillights

Does anyone have those LED taillights that are all over ebay for the 996? do you they good, like newer models, or are they janky looking, like racer taillights? Pics?

Check the 996 forums over on www.6speedonline.com. You'll find a few folks over there who have them.

I think even the factory ones look ricey and like cheap xmas light, I know most folks like them but they look cheezy to me, especially on the new Audi's

I agree with you Marc. Reminds me of carnival lighting.

I was behind a new A6 at a stoplight at night recently, and it almost blinded me. Super bright!

LEDs light up quicker and there's a measurable difference in the reaction time of the person behind you--that's enough for me to like 'em. My Infiniti has them but I've heard of problems just plugging them into a 996--something about the resistance is different and the car will always think you have a burned out bulb.

I was also thinking about getting the LED tails. But decided to stay original and spend the 500 on something else. If you look at the LED tails made for the boxster they look much better than the ones offered for the 996.

Couple of issues. Some may experience one or the other or both. Hyperblinking with lights turned on and/or cruise control will stop working. Easily solved with either a pair of resistors (both issues) or an LED blinker (for hyperblinking only). Like DennisC had mentioned, go over to 6speed, search and you'll find all the details.

I can attest the new LED taillights are very bright. In my new GT3 at stoplights at night, they completely illuminate the cars behind me. When looking through my rearview mirror I can see the people inside like they are in daylight. I only wish they had an all red tail light option like the 997.1 had, versus the completely pointless white (ricer/poser) tail light option on the 997.2.

The smoked red/clear ones don't look bad. They look just like the ones on mine, just LED. I'd buy a set if I could see them in person.

Pull your light switch out two clicks not one click if you want brightness back there

On the driver's side, at least. I wouldn't recommend it though--too many people out there already misusing fog lights.

I think you will find both rear lower outer lights go brighter when "pulling out 2 clicks". It's for crusing in the fog.

Rotating counter-clockwise might be what you are thinking of. In germany its the law for you to use those lightings found on the left of off when parked on the side of the road in unmarked areas. Hence the left or right depending on which side of the road you are parked on.
