Default Porsche vs miata

Why does everyone compare the Porsche and the miata?? I don't think they are comparable at all!! The miata is a slow *** fugally looking piece of crap. What's the deal??.

Whose this everyone? The only comparo I can think of is that they both make fun track cars...but its like comparing an apple to a cucumber.

These car's aren't in the same class. It's like comparing Dom Perignon to Sprite and asking why people think they taste similar. I doubt anyone would choose to drive a Miata over a 911, but not everyone has the financial means to drive the Porsche. Miata = cheap.

i think what people are trying to say, is a car for much cheaper can still give a good amount of thrills as a weekend car and a track car as a porche can...and some of these miatas modded out and tuned properly are really fast...i also hear that that the gear shifter is amazing!! test drove one for fun about 3 years ago...it was fun alright, good enough to make you smile

I was reading a Motor Trend article comparing 10 "true" sports cars eg. R8, GT500, Aston, Porsche, and the ever popular Miata. The 15 or so points the article was comparing was mostly about track performance, steering, and acceleration. The Mazda was below the fleets average significantly for 14 out of the 15 points, yet it scored 2nd place. Porsche was first . I would have to turn in my man card if I owned a Miata.

You guys haven't met one of those little Spec turbo Miata's on the track. I have seen them pass and actually lap many 996's.

For all-out performance, no contest. But if you're thinking about fun/buck or performance/buck (including purchase price, maintenance, insurance, depreciation) -- then it's a different conversation.

I don't agree that faster is more fun. You can have a lower powered car on narrow tires and have a great time. In a tight autocross, a (real) Mini Cooper S can wipe a 911 off the pavement.

Sure you could make a Miata faster than a 911, but in the end, I'd rather drive the 911 any day. It's more about style to me.

one guy comes to the P-car autocross with a gen one stripped down to the bone... that little sucker is fast as all get out!

still - I think the OP was talking about people in line at the gas station or local hamberger stand... like others said...never heard it, and if I did,... big deal - some poeple just like to talk and have no clue, whatever...

like when giving a new person a ride and they are shocked its not quieter and more comfortable for "that much money"

Never driven a Miata with no intentions of doing so. They look like fun at autoX events. Is the spec turbo the 200HP version? To me Porsche is the only way to go and there is no need to compare.

Miata = Outrun by a dog. Nuff said.
On another note, It appears one of my close-by neighbors has purchased a brand new 2010 Carerra in black, and man that thing is SEXY!
