Default Advice on how/where to sell, price point.

So in an old post I talked about moving to Cleveland for work, well, Cleveland's beaten me. I live right smack in the middle of the city so anywhere I drive is 10 miles of asphalt hell, and the place my wife and I got (rush job on finding an apartment, like it but made compromises) has no garage so the brutal winters will be that much more brutal on the car. Just doesn't make sense to keep paying premium cash for a premium sportscar in a junk environment.

Long story short, I'm selling the car.

It's a 2000 C2 6spd with 72000 miles. Mechanically it's fine (but getting everything 100% at the shop for the sale) the interior is good and the body has the typical rock chips/dings for a 10 year old car. Still beautiful though since it's Speed Yellow--the best color.

I'm just looking for advice on where to post the car to attract serious buyers, what asking price I should start at and what price I should expect to get for it, keeping in mind I want to sell it in 2-4 months. Things like that.

Any tips appreciated, will also tolerate berating for selling my dream car.

P.S. - What makes it even worse is that I went to a PCA autoX and did surprisingly well. I've only autoX'd a couple of times 5+ years ago in a dodge neon, so ending up 6 tenths off the FTD my first time in the 911 felt pretty incredible. I should've known better than to give myself the racing bug right before the sale.

P.P.S. - Don't worry guys, give it a few years for us to move to a better location with a nicely set up garage and I'm going to pick up a 996 specifically for the track.

What can you possibly replace with $20k that will put the same smile on your face every time you get in it? Buy a set of winter tires and be done with it. Enjoy the car.

Anything with a suspension softer than this. I bought this car to use as a daily driver which made sense down in Alabama, but up here about 90% of the driving I do is commuting on broken, chewed up concrete. There are zero smiles on my face going to and from work.

Edit: I also feel like a terrible owner driving the car on these roads. It really feels like the car is ripping itself apart on some of these roads, and I'm tracking down and quieting a new rattle at least once a week. It's like if I had a big, energetic dog and I moved from a place with a huge yard and a pool to a 10th floor apartment in a city.

Edit the second: Really, just forget about smiles completely, it's more often "Okay there was a crack in the concrete here yesterday I need to not hit i... F%#@!!!!" That's me for 20 minutes each way.

Get a car cover, put some 17" inch wheels on it for the winters and drive the damn thing

Life is short!

or... sell it and get a fast Audi!

sorry to hear that you "want" to sell, since you see spending the winter in Cleveland as a priority...lol..

what do you mean by "100% at the shop"?

straight up, I think you can definitely sell in the member and non-member classifieds; be prepared for alot of questioning on maintenance / history..

if you want to negotiate, then also prepare for counter-offers in the $18-20K range.

Nevertheless, the Pcar bug is permanent, so when the time comes, you'll get a newer / nicer model..

don't be a stranger....GLWtS

ask anywhere from $22K or little more or less depending on PSM, Litronics, Leather interior, suspension/ engine upgrades, etc

Basically I'll take it in and have something like a PPI done. Have the shop inspect the car, see if there are any issues and if they're a real concern I'll take care of them. Not going to go in and replace every hose and wire or something like that, but things like a dry/cracked coolant hose or a worn driveshaft I'll go after.

Namely there's an idle issue I think is a sign of the AOS going bad--going to need a diagnostic on that before the sale.

Hah, guess I should have said "100% for a 72000mile 10 year old car"

I'd suggest Rennlist, Autotrader and certainly some local papers... I think Excellence magazine is also putting together a for sale forum on the internet. Good luck Dave.

the pristine '99 coupe (40K + miles) just reduce to 22,950 in the other thread...so you can be somewhat in the ballpark...

God, who would even suggest a Honda? I mean just because I'm selling my car doesn't mean I'll be shredding up my dignity as...

Oh...

Edit - Actually I kind of have a car in mind for a commuter/beater. You folks will laugh, but for some reason I'm completely enamoured with the idea of a Mercedes-Benz 190D. I don't know what it is, just something about a late 80s German Sedan with a diesel just sounds like fun--perfectly reliable with just the right amount of quirky charm.
