Hey guys,

My local Porsche dealer told me that if I was to import a 03 C4S, the DRL's cannot be programmed. There would have to be some sort of module installed which would be roughly 300$

Is this true?

Once in Canada I would have to pay $500 for the Importation Quality Assurance Process, and then any addition mods required/needed, example: DRL's.

Lots of guys importing - rajeshr just took an 04'C4S in and would be a good source of info... you might PM him -

Just do a search under daytime hack and you will find a couple $10 solutions to the problem. They involve taps to the fusebox and very little in the way of supplies. One of the posts even has pictures.

Cool! I knew there was a way to get by that! I'd be saving $290.... guess that could go to my AC Fee and RIV Fee

See if you can get a US Porsche dealer who has service history on the car to issue the "no recall" letter. RIV will want a printout of the service summary to accompany the letter. That will save you the $500 Cdn Dealer fee. You'll still need a Cdn safety. The DRL's are a no brainer but get an Indie to do it. Dealers got the name Stealers from this kind of crap.

When I go to see the car, I'll have it inspected by the local Porsche dealer there.... I will do my best to get the "No Recall" Letter during that whole ordeal!

996 cannot be programmed for DRLs. It is a wiring and relay/fuse deal. How long it takes depends on how "factory" or hacked you want it.

I searched the threads for "importing" in the Canadian RL forum and to be honest, not much recent info came up. Mainly all older posts/threads....

But I think I understand the process pretty well.... I just want to benefit from all the tricks and ways to avoid the local stealer here once all is said and done.

BTW, the $500 is a cash grab from the Porsche dealers. If you get the Recall Clearance letter from a dealer in the US, you won't need to pay it all. PM me if you have any questions about the importation process!

I'll try my best to get it from a Porsche dealer once I go for my inspection. If all goes well, I'll avoid my Porsche dealer here forever lol!

Yes, I've had plenty of experience with Markup Motors from my days in Ottawa. The techs were pretty good, but the service advisors have always been quite a handful (esp. Les).

But I know a good mechanic there which can help me if needed. This is why I will probably stay away from them as much as possible....

DRL hack cost me actaully less than $10, child restraint anchor was placed on front seat for inspection at Canadain tire (the anchor cost $8 I believe and can be returned for refund after).
Recall Clearance letter recieved through a member on Rennlist.

Local dealer wanted $1200 + cost of changing DRL's.

For some reason I can't find the fuse taps... Does anyone know where I can get these?

What does a child restraint anchor look like? not sure if I would need that....

you can bypass the 500 payment by getting a pre-buyers check from a us porsche dealership and asking for a letter stating no-recalls, cost me $270 and i new exactly how the car was no over-revs, no faults etc.
