Default Help Understand Components of OEM PCM/NAV

I've got a 2001 TT with the factory NAV unit. This is not the BOSE audio. I'm considering an upgrade to a aftermarket NAV/Audio system.

Does the OEM system have separate amplifiers? If so where are they located?

I'm not looking to have the top of the line audio system just a nice upgrade and a NAV that's a bit more useful than the factory system from 2000! What a joke.

Is swapping out the OEM double DIN unit and replacing with aftermarket a DIY project?

Could I use the OEM GPS antenna with aftermarket head unit, not sure where the antenna is located?

Thanks for the insights or maybe reference to some insightful posts.

Amp last known is on the wall of the trunk just above the spare.
Nav unit I'm not sure but I think there were updates on cd's for it.
There are manuals online in the UK.
