Default Disengaging Neutral Sfaety Switch

I was wondering if there is a simple way to disengage the neutral safety switch in a 996. In the past I Would just unplug the switch and jump it. I looked under the dash briefly when I first got the car and didn't locate the switch. Thanks.

Are you talking about the clutch safety switch? If so, just disconnect it and jump the connector with a wire.

Yes that is what I'm talking about. Sounds good to me, I wasn't sure if it would effect anything else on the car. I know some of the newer cars it will mess with the throttle mapping.

Anybody know if jumpering the clutch switch will have any other side effects?

disrupts cruise control function.... IIRC

it also changes the air/fuel mapping for better response.

I just put a zip tie on mine several years ago. And it does not effect the cruise control, mine still turns off when you push in the clutch. With a zip tie if you want to reverse it you just cut the zip tie and your are back to the oem set up.

There are two switches down there on the clutch pedal. One you can zip tie (clutch safety switch)and other you can unplug and remove (prevents you from starting the car unless you foot is on the pedal...

Well, one effect could be when someone gets in the car with the transmission in gear and starts the engine forgetting to push in the clutch and the car takes off and bends something, or worse.

Since clutch interlock switches have been the norm for years many drivers of manuals get sloppy or forgetful and the switch saves them and the car.

For others who primarily see automatics it is even worse. They'll step on the brake instead of the clutch.

Frankly, I'd leave the switch active.

Sincerely,

Macster.

The switch I have zip tied is the one that senses whether the clutch in pressed for starting the car. Ironically I think I still press in the clutch almost every time I start the car.

As someone mentinoned, there are two switches on the clutch pedal. This one you can bypass (jumping the connections) but with the side effects Macster mentioned.

The other one affects mapping and cruise control like redridge said.

That is the one i was first talking about. Mine went bad so i jumped it. I usually leave my car in neutral and i just jump in my car and start it at the same time.. So i get places faster..

There is a photo in this thread which shows both switches. The clutch starter switch is light grey.

Wet blanket here.

There was an incident a while back where a mechanic or valet started a car in gear, which took off and wrecked. The owner was unable to collect because he had disabled the safety switch which would have prevented the accident. Be careful what you wish for.
