1999 C2-Testing Camshaft Deviation .I am reading 3 degrees at idle and it does not change as engine speed is increased .I am pretty sure the actuators are ok because the drive link function works .Has anyone tried the same test and at what engine speed did the deviation change ?

Best ask the manufacturer. They worn actual values might not be right. The cam trick doesn't start till 3k or 3.5k or so. If you tried idling at 4k and no difference then try hitting the gas in a gear that lets you go through 2-4k and see if you feel and hear the cam change by power results.

I hope its just the rpms were wrong for the testing.

My guess is that it's the Durametric software for the 5.2 DME . .Road test -it sounds and feels right plus no CEL .I was hoping someone else had tried the test and could verify my guess (or not)

On the 3.4 VarioCam engines the advance starts at about 1,500 RPM and cuts out at about 5,500 RPM. If you set the Durametric for actual values mode and activate the cam position function you should be able to see the advance taking place.

Doug-with the dme 5.2 can't do simultaneous camshaft drive link and actual value .There is a bug in the software -per durametric .What I don't know and have emailed durametric is:does the software report real time cam deviation .My guess is that is the bug .

PS-your drawings for the camshaft tool were a big help .You were also right that you can time these without the auxillary chain tensioner tool .Spec is + or minus 6 degrees -I came out at 3 .

Under Tools there is the logging feature plus the ability to send the log to durametric's people.
I had problems understanding the log last time trying to read the file but possibly the info might get logged.

Great idea.The Durametric folks say the cam deviation actual value works in realtime .I hope they are wrong .Because if it does I don't have a clue why the cams aren't adjusting .They move with the drive link and the sensor works -the timing was way off (12) before I retimed it and now is reading 3 degrees which indicates the sensor is ok .

Could also be a tad bit of getting lost in all the things to monitor. I know I get lost in there seeing a lot of stuff I don't understand. If you are running more than just watch the cams maybe only run cam monitoring since it might lag things

Good point-I have been testing with rpm and cam deviation actual values .If you have an occasion to have your durametric out -I would very interested in what result you get .I still think it's the software or I would be throwing codes (I think)
