PSE muffler hack at local muffler shop?
I finally decided I want the FisterD stage II muffler hack. My exhaust is way too quiet, even though its my daily driver. However, because its my DD, I'd like to avoid running muffler bypass pipes for however long it takes to ship my exhaust back and forth from Indy to Cali (to avoid giving up my lightly used exhaust and to avoid moving around my tips). My neighbors and most importantly wife would not be happy with the muffler bypass pipes for a few weeks.
The recs from Fister's posts (thanks Fister!) seem to be, 1.75" pipe from inlet to outlet, stainless steel welding, don't intrude into the inlet outlet pipes. Any other recs from people who got it done at their local shop? Thanks!

I did it at my local shop, they had no previosu experience and they manage to do it easily with a picture of the final results.
the thing is you need to buy the pie with the bend. as very few shop can either bend or cut stainless steel. also make sure they can weld stainless steel, most of my local shop said they could not do it.
I had bought a separate set of exhaust to drive while it was done, and also in case they mess it up too badly.
I might be able to find the exact piece of pipe I bought and where, if you need it. I go the info on the forum anyways.
best mod ever, good luck with it.

Balefire- I work at a shop that can weld stainless. I'm thinking of having them do the hack. Send the link on the bent pipe when you get it. I could stop by after it is done so you can hear.

Granted the cost is cheap but its cheaper to DIY......can't guarantee the quality though. But you can also reply when someone asks you what did you to make sound so good you can say that you did it yourself. And if it was a woman who asked the question.......your gettin' lucky.

it looks like waynesworld was one of the first to do the stage II mod on a 3.4L with a 1.25" tube, 6" radius.
psperl also did a stage II mod on 3.4L with a 1.75" tube, 2" radius
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...pe-1-75-a.html
can i assume that the 6 in radius tubing worked for your 3.6L exhaust too? the increased radius is probably freer flowing if it fit.
i think fister uses 1.75" instead of 1.25". i will probably go with the 1.75" size, but i just wanted to make sure on the radius. thanks.

if you get the hack done, i would love to stop by and hear it, not to mention meet a local RL guy.

here are some links for the 1.75" version of the above with a 6" radius.

I don't know if my guys have a plasma cutter though for making the holes. I will find and send you a PM.
Would be good to meet a fellow RL as well. Maybe you can show me where you AutoX.

304 stainless tubing is overkill, since the muffler is made from 400 series find a top notch exhaust shop and they'll be able to bend a stainless bypass pipe.

Three Wheelin'
It is a cheap DIY if you have the welding experience... Unless you are skilled at tig welding, material selection and weld prep... Have the pros do it.

this is one of those deal like moving a giant piece of equipment into your building....you can think and theorize and plot out every move and what things will be needed, how to get here, then there and over here....until you are blue in the face
then the crew from the tranfer company shows up - look like a bunch of idiots, all they have is scraps of wood and duct tape.... and before you know it the machine is in place while you stand there thinking DAMN ! that was slick, I would have never thought of that
the guys that fabricate metal and pipe will knock this out so quick you wont have time to do much but hand them an extra $20 and say you'll send your friends over
