unlocking the passenger door w/o using the remote
I was told the battery in the remote lasts forever. Whether that's true or not, I tend to prefer getting in the car, then unlocking the passenger's side.
I'd like to be able to do this with the lock/unlock button instead of reaching over and pulling the handle.
Is my button defective or is there another trick to getting it to work?
Tks

Open the door with the keyhole lock instead of the remote.
Wait. You want to enter the car with the passenger door locked, and then unlock the passenger door without reaching over? May I ask why?

I guess my initial post wasn't clear.
The common scenario for me is having to load the trunk and take two or three passengers.
1. I open the driver's side door
2. I put the key in the ignition to prevent the alarm from screaming
3. I use the button to open the trunk
4. I load the trunk to free my hands
5. I close the trunk and sit in the car
6. I reach over and open the passenger's side handle.
Currently the passengers are waiting outside the car until step 6. If the unlock door button on the dash were an option (perhaps it is and it isn't working properly), the passenger's door could be opened between steps 2 and 3 since, when I lean in the car I can reach the button on the dash but cannot reach the passenger's side handle unless I sit down on the driver's side seat which is not an option since I'm holding bags that are to go in the trunk

Most key fobs out there have a double click unlocks all the doors. Could be the computer is configureable to drivers only or both doors to unlock but eh. Maybe try putting bags in the back. What has me wondering is you saying put key in the ignition to prevent the alarm from going off. Doesn't that mean your system is goofy?
Just try double clicking. Mine unlocks both sides last I knew with a single press of the button. Could be you do have a problem in the locking system since it seems your alarm is prone to go off. Have you read the manual on the subject?

My 2003 is exactly the same. I've also been wondering if something is wrong. The passenger door does not unlock with remote, nor does the dash button unlock it. I have to reach over to unlock the passenger's door. Just seems goofy or defective.

Your dealer can set your unlocking preferences - it's outlined in the owner's manual. If I were in your scenario, I'd push the door button on my remote once to unlock all the doors (that's the way mine is set up), and then press the trunk button on my remote to unlock/open the frunk. I'd load my belongings and then get in the car with my passengers.
You must have small passengers if you are taking 2 or 3 of them!

I think you're right Tom, but if you don't put the key in the ignition, it locks them again after 10 seconds or so.

Just use the key fob and don't worry about the battery. I just replaced the battery in mine and it literally took about 2 minutes and didn't require any tools. The battery is the same standard CR2032 battery that computer motherboards use, which is where I got my replacement.
