Optical TDI

Here's what I'm planning on doing over the next few of weeks. My 2002 Targa has 27,560 miles on it. Besides my list below, what else could I add to it?

• Brake fluid flush for upcoming DE
• Serpentine belt - preventative
• Coolant cap - preventative
• Inspect coolant reservoir area for signs of leakage
• Clean engine air filter with mild blown air (changed last May)
• Oil change - only 2,500 miles / 5 months on it but DE in a few weeks
• Pull off underside pans to inspect
• Clean throttle body
• Clean radiators
• Cabin air filter
• Visually inspect the following: Steering gear bellows, axle joint bellows, drive shaft boots. Just looking for obvious issues, tears, etc.
• Clay bar, polish, wax, interior detail

I did the plugs last May.

check the pulleys on the surpentine while doing the replacement

cleaning the airfilter is sort of overkill...you can just brush off any big stuff...you are liable to cause more issues than resolve by messing with it. They flow a LOT of air even dirty, dont worry, why not replace it, its cheap and been a year?

clean radiators = remove condensor? FUN !

tire presure/condition
Brake condition
check shocks of wet spots - leaks
smack the drop links and listen for clunks
re-torque wheels
check seats, seat belts

is this your first DE? - dont get too worked up...chances are pretty high your car is fine.

Don't forget, and this is key to any successful DIY:

Drink plenty of fluids, particularly of the beer persuasion.

Thanks for the other tips. How are the pulley's tested?

Yes oil and filter. Cleaning debris around radiators is just pulling front bumper I've read. Not sure about the condensors, so I'll need to re-read the DIY on that one.

12+ DEs over the last 5 years with various cars. This will be the second with the 996. Since I just installed the RoW M030 and have the H&R rear sway bar since the last DE, it should be much more fun at Mid-Ohio.

Front drop links have been replaced. Rotors are good with Carbotech XP8 pads on the car. Just need to flush with the handy-dandy Motive pump.

Do you think you need an oil change after only 2500 mi w/ a DE coming up? I would probably do the oil & filter change after the DE...everything else looks good.

Similar newbie question, previous owner did oil service in Oct when he put the car away. In Dec I took it home and I haven't brought it out for spring yet, would you guys do another oil service?

Everything was done at the dealer.

You did it correctly. Oil change before winter storage reduces or eliminates moisture in the oil and in the engine. I'd use your Porsche and do another oil change after you've driven it for 3k miles or whatever your schedule is.
