Default Shifter Linkage Play / Center Console Refinish

So I pulled out my center console so I can refinish it and I was checking out my shifter and its linkages. I noticed there seems to be excessive play and I wonder if you can replace the two plastic (white) pieces that my fingers are on in the picture to "tighten" it up.

I don't think you can replace that. You may be wanting to try a B&M short shift kit.....or a 997 shifter. Shifting is so much smaller and tighter.

Gotcha.. what a waste IMO. I bet it would tighten up if I could replace those pieces...

997 shifter is 200 from Suncoast. Well worth it. Much smother and a shorter throw than the 996 stock shifter.

I just did a schnell from vertex it was all billet and came with the primary linkage to the main shift cable also all billet, and was about half the price of the b&m. IMO it's a really nice shifter.

Hmmm, that Vertex gear looks pretty good though too. Looks real high quality (not that Porsche OEM isn't, I'm just sayin...)

That's actually pretty nice & a quality built linkage, although, no one is going to see it. Looks like it'll stand up better than OEM. Good piece.

Hmmm, I'm shopping for a SSK right now. This is intriguing. Anyone else have any thoughts on the matter? Normal convention is to go with B&M but it's $280.....did you order the Schnell billet linkages for 40 bucks as well?

Thanks,

~michael

Sorry can't find the reciept, I know they 2 options 1 with the lower link and one without. IIRC was a lot cheaper to buy them together. If you want i can pull up the boot and take a pic. Sorry about receipt but I'm painfully irresponsible

No no no, don't bother with that, although I appreciate it.

I'll have to keep doing my research. Seems a lot of people like the 997 shifter, but it still seems to have some plastic parts and reduces throw by ~15%....I'd like a bit shorter if I could. This is looking encouraging.

Thanks,

~m

Hey, I can't decide if I should paint my center console gloss black or matte black.... What do you guys think? I'm also going to spray the ignition rosette since it is worn too.
