Default WTB - stock OEM struts for '99 C4

First, let me explain why...

I have owned my '99 C4 for about 3 years. It was a high mileage car when I got it, about 153,000 km and I have driven it another 40,000 km. As far as I know, it has the OEM suspension, not a ROW or other sports version. Despite this, the car had a very hard ride when I got it, and it has become worse and worse. To the point that it is very unpleasant to drive it on anything but smooth roads. Where I live, we have very few of those. It feels like the struts are binding or partially seized up. If you try to deflect the suspension by pushing down on the fender, it will hardly move.

So, I am looking for a set of used struts to see if this will fix the problem. I know lots of Rennlisters have upgraded their suspensions to ROW or other kits. If any of you still have your original struts and would like to sell them, please reply to this post or send me a PM.

Reminder, this is for a C4. I believe the C2 uses different struts.

Thanks.

Thanks Jim, but I am hoping to buy struts only. Trying to keep my costs down. Perhaps like others on the forum who are on a retirement income, I need to appease my wife who considers Porsche related expenses as something instead of a trip to South America, or a cruise on the Danube.

If I can't buy just a set of used struts, then I will certainly keep your system in mind.

Just checked, and his is indeed a C2. Thanks anyway for the tip. Hopefully some others will come along. I have noticed a lot of guys posting about their suspension upgrades, so there must be some OEM struts lying around in garages.

I just recently replaced my two rear struts (2001 C4). I needed to do it quickly to be up and running before a DE so I used stock struts because the ROW and X74 were too far away to make it in time. I'm likely to swap over to a new full suspension so I'd have the two rear struts with less than a thousand miles on them (plus 3 DE days) if you're interested.

OK, I am interested, but I need front struts as well. Not sure from what you wrote above, whether you have these as well. Please PM me to clarify, and how much you are asking. Also, your location for shipping purposes. Thanks.

I have the complete set of struts, springs etc. off my 2000 C4 from when I went to the PSS10 set up at about 53,000 miles. At least one of the rear shocks is leaking. I should say that I did replace them because the ride was getting pretty rough and bouncy so I can't vouch for the condition of everything. But if you are interested let me know.

Hi There

I have struts and sway bars from my 2001 C4, and would be happy to make a deal with you.

Please let me know.. They would be a perfect fit for your car...

I do have the front struts as well, but they're not new. In fact they have 110k miles on them. Personally I'd get yourself a new set for the front rather than using mine.

Before to buy anything have a look at the car sticker and be sure that you have or not the optional suspension M030 (sport suspension)....if so you will have to replace the shocks by the same one....

I know what i'm talking about cause last year i have had to changed mine and i found the new one on Ebay.they were almost new and i get them for just $200.00...
Good luck

I have the fronts and a rear left over when I did the X74. The other rear went to Kyle (Shark Attack). Shoot me a PM if interested. They have 60K miles on them.

Default It's a done deal!

Thanks to all for your replies and offers.

I have made a deal with a fellow Rennlister who lives not too far away, and will be picking up the struts next week.

Now, I may need some help in installing them. I didn't see a DIY on Renntech on strut removal/replacement. Seems to me there should be one? I have done struts on several cars, but never on a 996.

Any tips on this?
