Default 200 cell cats? yeah they're worth it....

Afternoon fellas... I wanted to share my experience with my new 200 cell catalytics. I know of few of you have considered swapping a bad cat or 2 over to an aftermarket application. Well, I got a check engine code a few weeks back that I found to be a bad catalytic. So the search began for something racier.......

Fast forward to last week.... received my 200 cell x-pipe cats from Fabspeed. Had my indy install them which was a good move on my part since they did not fit properly. So instead of me getting aggravated my shop was able to request some extension sleeves and clamps from the manufacturer and get them installed properly. (If it was me under the car and the cats didnt line up id still be cursing)

Anyways if you were on the fence about 200 cells.... Jump off and go buy them.... I have PSE on my car along with the schnell CAI which sound good. But now, the car makes some of the sweetest noise ive ever heard. The howl that comes from the exhaust at wide open throttle is sublime. Dare I say the car now sounds like a GT3.... well the picth is somehow higher and the throttle response has improved considerably. No more laziness at lower rpms.

Sorry no sound clips but trust me on this... if your looking to wake your 996 up and add some fantastic exhaust notes this is a great option. Also NO DRONE with my current setup....

That's great! Glad to hear it enhances the PSE. My only change would be a different manufacturer. FVD perhaps. Many folks don't have too many nice things to say about fabspeed products.

Yeah, I had my reservations as well but rolled the dice... and.... they delivered cats that were trimmed too short. Apparently they trim1-2 inches off for PSE. They must've trimmed twice! In the end an easy fix and parts were overnighted so they made it right on the second try.

no fitment issues with fvd and pse for me.... yes they sound like gt3s' since fvd and fabspeed share the same cats (hjs racing). Great mod for sure with noticeable performance.

I have Fabspeed's version one of these cats (not x pipe) and I love them! Not sure how old they are as I bought them second hand but they've been awesome

I wonder how those would sounds with Fister D sport mufflers. I like the Fisters because they aren't too loud and don't drone. OTOH, a little more volume wouldn't be bad if there was no drone. I think it might be a good combination.

200 cell is "cells per square inch", ie 200 holes in the ceramic brick per square inch. The lower the number, the bigger the hole so the lower the back pressure. Lower cells also make it less efficient at its function so no OE cats are 200 cell. They are 400-600+ cell.

Do it...I've got fisterd's...coupled with 200 cells....absolutely no drone with the perfect amount of sound....

Just bypass pipes for me....no expensive cats mods, no exhaust and weight savings. $100 bucks. I can deal with the drone at certain RPMs....makes the car sound nice. Just my 2 cents. Looks like a nice clean install though.

Dennis, if you looking for more exhaust sound you wont be dissapointed. When the throttle is wide open the car sounds incredible. While driving casually you will notice a crisper note. The engine just sounds like it is breathing better and to me this is exactly how a Porsche should sound.

I considered bypass pipes but from other members feedback I figured they would be too loud for daily driving... Especially pulling in and out of my neighborhood.

But... I am curious how much louder they would be. My uncle has a 996 race car with straight pipes and his car is possibly even too loud at the track... I was just looking for "more" and to me the 200 cell cats are perfect. (for now )
