My beautiful red 2000 996 is my daily driver and occasional track-day and autocross car (has been since I bought it in 2006), has 128,000 miles on it, and is still rattle and squeak free. It's on its original engine, which still pulls like a freight train at all revs, and is smoke free. Over the years I've replaced the AOS, the spark plug coils and tubes, one alternator, the serpentine belt, and finally had the clutch replaced at around 110,000 miles. And while my mechanic was in there, I had him replace the IMS (for the LN Engineering version) and the RMS. The car still has its original, now tired, suspension, but still tracks straight and true. I'm trying to decide which option to go with, in terms of suspension. The transmission will need to come out and apart to have the pinion bearing replaced, as it's been making some noise for quite some time now. However, it still shifts beautifully.
All in all, I'm VERY happy with my 996. It's been an extremely dependable and well built car, and yet is still as beautiful and high performing as ever. I can't ask for more than that.

On the way home from work yesterday 132k.. Drive it every day, have had it since 90k about six years. I used to drive only about 8 miles to work now about 27 and I get on the hwy, car is much happier. Yes, that's a check engine light.

55K miles - PO changed RMS seal at 30K and coolant cap .. but other than that - routine maintenance. Intermittent front indicator bulb (DIY'd bad contact spring), Oil pressure sender is intermittent, replaced engine hood shock, and radio broken when I got it (switched for Pioneer Double DIN deck), multifunction switch needs replacing but engine pulls like a train. Probably do water pump preventative at 60K. 2002 Targa - Mobil 1 0W40

Previous 996 Cab had 61K when I sold it 18 months ago. It had a replacement motor that Porsche "Goodwilled" installed at 45K. The car looked mint and near new when I sold it, crystal clear headlights and plastic rear window. The car never saw sun except when driven. I saw the current owner and he is very happy with the car and think he got a good price at $30K when he bought it.
My current 996TT Cab just turned 18K and is 8 years old. The interior still has the "New Leather" smell and the car looks mint everywhere. It's from Las Vegas, but has no signs of being parked in the sun and the undercarriage has no signs of ever being wet, still looks new. It's oil has been changed every 2500 miles. Overserviced by the previous owner, better than the alternative though.

Burning Brakes
My car also still has the new leather smell to it. But I think that's partly because of the seat recall...
