Default Mid-life crisis?

I'm 50 and I bought a Porsche=midlife crisis? When people hear I bought a Porsche what many say is "Oh' the mid-life crisis thing!" What the F? I've been planning to buy this car for fifteen years. I even had a warm up 911, A bright yellow 911T; yet most think it's an impulse buy to boost my textosteroon. Has anyone else been told they're over- compensating?

I wanted a 911 since I was 10 years old. Finally bought one at age 47. When people insinuate that it's a mid-life crisis car, I just say, "you don't know me very well, do you?"

Not true, us young chaps buy them too. I got one because I love cars, I love autocross, track days, etc, and no other car would do. So I saved up and got one. What's wrong with that?

Most people are still under the impression that a 996 costs $70k to buy. Yet no one is "overcompensating" when they spend $30k on a toyota pickup truck.

I hope I live to be older than 44....

F* 'em all. They don't deserve an explanation. Just drive your car and enjoy the hell out of it. If you want to reply, say something like "Yes, it was a toss-up between this and a 20 year old blond with a huge rack. I figured the Porsche would hold up better."

Why even try to explain? I bet they also try to justify why they don't want one.

Or That the Porsche would be less expensive in the long run.

Oh yeah. Absolutely a mid-life crisis mobile for me. I have no problem admitting it. Like others, I've wanted one since I was a kid -- and probably could have afforded one long ago. So I don't see it as such. But it probably is to everyone who views it from the outside.

And frankly, who cares?

It's a mid-life reward for actually making it this long.

Your response:

"My midlife crisis will be a 20 y/o cheerleader and a Lear Jet. This is just entertainment."

Or....

"Sounds like overcompensating has been on your mind a lot lately. What kinds of problems have you been having?"

I bought my first 911 when I was 34 so I'll guess I'll be dead at 68.
