New to 996 and Porsche
I picked up a 2003 996 Turbo last week and cannot believe how much fun the car is! I've participated in Porsche HPDE and lapping day events with the local Porsche club the last 3 seasons driving my 370Z….. but saw a change was needed. Check out the pics!

Great looking 996tt. Beautiful.
Jealousy reigns.
BTW, have you driven a new 370Z NISMO? The new Z cars are pretty nice these days. How does you '03 996tt compare overall to the 370Z?

Thanks!
I haven't driven the Nizmo. I had a 09 Touring/Sport that was fully loaded. I changed out the suspension, added a performance exhaust system and dyno tuned the car…so it was pretty well set up. I saw that I needed to go further to improve track performance and decided to not cross that line so I made the change to the 996TT. For a comparison….different seat feel, different power and different handling all a fairly large improvement over my 370; so much, I can hardly imagine ever going back. The Nizmo has a welded chassis so most likely is much better out of the box on the track.
The 996TT has a black leather interior with white gage cluster. My first 2 adjustments will be track seats/5 point harness and then buying some 18" wheels for the R-comps. Anyone need some excellent condition black leather 8-way with heat seats?

Very nice! The wheels look great on that car, and it appears that you have some kind of a custom exhaust...

Thanks! The exhaust is custom and the car is chipped to supposedly ~500HP. The wheels are MOMO wheels and are chrome over aluminum alloy so yes the chrome is starting to chip off…So I will need to consider a re-chroming the wheels.
Thanks for the compliments! I do go out and look at the car in the garage from time to time…still can't believe I got it.

Hi Ed,
This morning I'm going to Cantrell's for a dealership paid diagnostic (I have a few codes dealing with air flow) but have also looked at the Porsche/Audi shop down in Issaquah. If you have experience/recommendations I'd really appreciate hearing your top choices.
Thanks!

the new shop in Issauah is "very clean" if you like that sort of thing...
the best 996 shop in the area is Chris's German Auto in Bellevue - leaders in motor work, getting power out of your Turbo, deep understanding of the entire system and what it takes to do the job right....not an "eat off the floor" kind of place....more aof a build engines and maintain cars with a niche in historic preservation, track preparation and unsurpassed knowledge of the 996/7
Colin and Chris are collaborators on many front and I see cars come from Collin's place for motor work, where as I see cars go to Colins for alignment, roll bars, and tweaking....
stop in and let them know I sent you, they will give you "the full monty" and then you can make up your own mind...its worth the trip

I've had work done at Chris's and Colin's before while working through a 930 purchase. The scheduling at Chris's was screwy whereas at Colin's they accommodated my schedule really well…………..buying the 930 would have been analogous to shooting myself in the foot financially thanks to Colin's shop guidance.
If you run the HPDE events you've probably seen me with my 370Z with white wheels. A couple guys who run 2001 996 turbos convinced me to go the current route.
