Shipping Cross Country
Hey guys.
I will need to ship my car across the country (charleston-seattle) if i can't sell it before I move in february. Has anyone had any success/horror stories with certain companies? Ive been calling around to places and getting 'enclosed trailer' quotes around $1500 which seems kind of steep. Just wondering if theres a company out there that is ideal for our cars. Thanks!

8 years ago it cost me $2,000 to ship a car to California. So I agree that $1500 is a good price. My carrier was a quality company with an enclosed semi with several mega-buck collectible concours cars from Amelia going that way, too. So I got to share the ride. Somewhere between 90 cents and $1.00 per cross-country mile is normal for high-end cars.... at that time.

I used Dependable Auto Shippers once in the past when we moved. I wouldn't use them again. The car above mine in the truck leaked oil onto my car, and the driver scratched my paint trying to rub it off when the car came out. They also transfer the vehicles to multiple trucks over the course of the move, which I don't like. I will not use DAS again.

I used Premiere Auto Shippers to shippers to ship my new Cab from Seattle to Savannah. It was $1350 enclosed carrier. They had my car picked-up the same day I called and delivered in 5 days. Car arrived perfect.

I used DeMois Trucking in October of this year to ship from CA to PA for a flat and total fee of $1500 - enclosed trailer, everything exactly as promised and as scheduled, fantastic communication throughout the transaction. Car was thoroughly inspected and everything documented prior to loading, and that inspection was thoroughly reviewed with me upon delivery. They even noted that the car was "dusty" when they picked it up. I would definitely use them again.

Thanks for the replys. This is exactly what i was hoping for. Ive literally gotten calls from 8-10 companies, but knowing which ones have had prior success/great customer service is extremely important to know.

I paid $610 each way from RI to GA. The pickup was in an enclosed unit because the original driver could not get up here in time, so he subcontracted the job. The enclosed carrier was a bonus on the way down. Came back on a standard car carrier - no damage, just needed a car wash. The name of this company was Backwoods Trucking in GA. They do a lot of work for Flat 6 as far as picking up cars for IMSR work.

When I had mine shipped, the booker said that while they were happy to ship enclosed, it was typically the vintage and/or garage queens that were shipped as such. Most cars like my 996, went open air. Mind you that was only 500 miles but it was a good data point and saved me several hundred dollars. Their/your insurance should cover any issues is something goes amiss while shipping.
But I understand the allure/safety of enclosed shipping.

I purchased my car last year from a Dallas dealer (Straightline) and had it shipped to Northern Ca. through the dealer. Negotiated the price of $800 down from $1000. Car was shipped open air with a very complete inspection before and after. Car arrived in a few days. It was a little dirty but safe and sound. So, what I'm triying to say is transport can be had for less and cost probably negotiable.

There are quite a few good transport companies. If you are flexible and give them a good 2 week notice price can be neg. a few hundred. You can go directly to the shipper for a quote or go through a great broker...watch out for shady brokers as there are many
