Default Now this is how a Porsche was MEANT to be driven...

I had to share this.

I grew up sitting on the sidelines of these races and still get goosebumps watching footage like this. Amazing driving - man and car against road - none of this aseptic track stuff - pure aggressive driving. Heaven!

Could be Isle of Man. This is racing in it's purest form using country roads for the venue and having spectators just inches away from the cars.

Most of that footage appears to be Germany, but it is racing in it's purest form... I remember freezing my *** off to watch winter morning forest stages.... frost bite, all for the joy of seeing headlights and a fraction of a second of noise and wind as the cars screamed by only inches away. It was all worth it. To me rally is still the best form of racing, even today I am unexcited by seeing Porsches on a track.

I didn't know they used Porsche's in that series. Very nice! Now if I could drive 25% as good as they do I'd be jumping for joy.

Thanks for sharing!

Porsches have been used in rallies almost as long as the 911 has been around.

The spectators of this form of racing are hardened enthusiast. Just as much guts as the drivers.

Thanks for the Boxing Day treat wellard. That is definitely the best racing: hell-bent on small country roads with constantly changing conditions.

Not certain you meant that the way it is written. Porsches have been doing this kind of rallying since the Gmund coupes - 356SL - Liege-Rome-Liege, Monte Carlo, tons more.

I've seen that video before, but it's definitely worth watching again (and again).

Wellardmac, thanks for the link. That was 8:45 well spent though my boss might disagree. I love the article's intro sentence, "....the ***-engined slot cars of fascist origins ..."
