I used the dealer for a rebuilt at the factory engine. Whatever you are up to remember once some internal parts start failing it might be others close behind. Figure if you have around 120,000+ miles on the engine and want to keep romping on the gas like a prosche should be able to do then not doing a full rebuild is risking other failures.

There is a private shop in Ann Arbor that I've heard many good things about called Rennstatt. The gentleman that owns the shop, Tim, is affiliated with the local PCA chapter and is actively engaged. While I've not taken anything to this gentleman, he does come highly recommended. At least worth looking at http://www.rennstatt.com/

Meant cheap = good value. Sorry for not making that precise.

Yep. I was just about to remind you that the car is a Porsche, not a Honda.

I just finished instructing a series of classes at the WTI Training Expo and one of the hot topics was the facts related to cutting corners to build M96 engines cheaply. In a room filled with techs and shop owners from around the country the horror stories that I heard from them even boggled my mind. I thought I had all the good stories.

Nothing about good value = Cheap. Good value is spending whats required to purchase something that simply works, performs and doesn't break.
