991 Oil Change, this will make you appreciate your 996
Saw this on the 997 forum... This is what you need to do to change the oil and filter , Air Filter on a 991.
Now, I do really like the look of the new car but is it me or is this a genuinely stupid design? whats a dealer going to charge 500 bucks to change the oil?
Maybe the bumper is "quick release".... nah.
To get to the air filter:

But I don't want a car that I have to spend hours on just to change the oil and air filter!
While I'm sure the 991 will be a superb driver it takes the 991 further away from what many of us love about these cars. But than again I said that about the 996 when it came out and now I have owned one for years. But I still hang onto the ol' 86 for the fix I need.

Car manufacturers are purposefully designing things to force customers to seek service at the dealer. When the Boxster first came out in '97 in the US there was a lot of speculation and fear associated with doing a simple oil change. Most people would just take the car to the dealer and pay the price which was very high. You've got to remember many loaded Boxsters were over $60k and there was quite a waiting list just to order one, and hardly anything, anywhere came up used for quite some time. The (high) rollers would pay up to $350 for the simple oil change and most didn't consider DIY.

Well you can see the oil filter housing easily accessed on the top of the motor. Assuming you can drain the oil from underneath, I don't think you would need to remove the bumper to change the oil.
The air filter though. That's another matter. You shouldn't have to remove body panels to change a filter.

you will have to admit that the air filter is something you don't have to change more often than you would need to clean your front 996 radiators... which require the front bumper to be removed.
I hope oil change are easy because this needs to be done a lot more frequently especially for the client who track their car.

However, I have seen the small engine cover on the 991 in person and I'd bet that most maintenance DIY projects, such as air filter replacement, serpentine belt, MAF, throttle body, alternator, coolant tank, etc., will be a serious PITA.

Guess I won't be getting in line for the 991 anytime soon. That's just crazy, maybe Porsche has switched from beer breaks to something a little stronger.
