Default IMS bearings pics

Here are a few pictures of my IMS bearing cut apart. Replaced it with LN a couple of months ago at approx 52K. No issues prior to replacement.

Please forgive the fact that I am without any mechanical aptitude. Do these picture indicate no damage to OEM IMS? I am scheduled to get mine done next week. Getting clutch replaced and a B&M short shifter done while I'm at it. BTW, any one in DFW used RAC Performance? Would you recommend them?

The damage isn't very noticeable. Maybe some pitting in the races/*****..

No drive-ability issues. No leaking at IMS or RMS. Preventative Upgrade.

The photo's indicate a bearing that was in fine working condition.

I've seen bearings that looked 9000% worse then these. Some missing *****, others with chunks out of the ***** and the races look like a lunar landscape. My indy has quite a collection along with another indy I drop into for oil filters has a jar with dead ones as well. These look like they could have gone many more miles or years even. Oil changes by the book or better work quite well huh?

out of curiosity how freely did yours spin before you tore it down? and did your center shaft have any wobble to it? I just got my old single row back...after it was cleaned up my races had some pitting, but it spun with no resistance at all and the center shaft wobbled back and forth some.

Take a micrometer to each of those ***** and measure around the circumference of them.. Visual inspections don't illustrate the stage 1 bearing wear very well at all, but it can sometimes be measured.

Based on what this bearing looks like I'd say the driver had the proper driving technique and might have owned an air-cooled Porsche in the past. This bearing is still worn and looking at it under heavier magnification will show a lot more of the wear.

Jake,

What is the proper driving technique?

The bearing spun freely and there was no wobble or play. The ball mic out at 7.91mm / .311 in - what is original spec?

Mine looked like that with 103k miles. I was "not" happy about that but of course it was too late. Now I have to change mine every few years per LN's website.
