I'd say more frequent changes might be slightly better for engine life.

You've obviously omitted several facts which hopefully your mechanics had at hand when they made their assessment, and which an intelligent person would need to know to answer your question.

How many miles/year you drive? Is the car driven year-round? Is it driven daily? Do you ever track it? How many miles on the engine? What is the temperature range where you live?

My extended warranty mandates oil+filter each 6 months or 5000 miles, so naturally that is what I do. The official dealer here uses Penzoil, my indie offers Mobil-1 for those who insist, but recommends some German marque synthetic which they use in their racing team cars. This is the tropics and they all agree on 5W-40. I don't know where other than perhaps the bowels of hell that one would recommend 10/* or 20/* for year-round use.

I follow this mantra - I do it once a year, and I usually put 4000-6000 miles per year on it (not my daily driver).

I'm thinking the RUF guys beat the **** out of their cars, so having a thick oil like that would make sense. I wouldn't hand that out as a general rec.

0w40 mobil 1 is cost effective for dd. I changed mine after 1 yr approx 5km and. Did oil analysis .. oil had plenty of life left. I don't think need to do more often than that unless you are tracking the car ....

Bollucks? From the Uk? Whoever Ruf is? That's a joke right? Try German tuner with manufacturer status that attained world wide renown in 1987 by modifying 3.2L p-cars into 200 mph, street legal super cars (in thier time if not currently as well). Yellowbird? On the cover of every auto mag in Europe, UK, US multiple times? Subsequently produced many extreme performance versions of all model Porsches? OP should ignore their input and follow your lead I guess. Post was from 5:30am you probably just forgot to put the smiley face on it.

This was what I was about to ask... Was it the EX authourized dealer in texas, the Authourized dealer in Michigan or Alois Ruf?

The source of the information is as (if not more) important as the information.

Just noticed, I assume your car is Ruf supercharged? This may affect proper oil selection & I would think Ruf Dallas should know.
