Auctions are another way to sell a car with less hassle. A good action house will be able to help you accurately value your car and they take it from there. I recently heard a presentation from a guy that works at Bonhams. It was neat hearing their perspective.

I buy and sell cars using a single approach:
1. I research thoroughly and decide what I think is a decent deal for myself and the other party (whether buyer or seller),
2. offer to buy (or sell) the car for that amount,
3. state clearly that I don't negotiate, and that if the other party doesn't want to accept my price, we can go our separate ways, no harm no foul.
4. If someone insists on negotiating, I terminate the discussion.

The key is being prepared and being realistic about what the car is worth, but I always get more than book + 10% and pay less than book - 10%. This has worked every time, through about 30 transactions, for the last 30-odd years, with a "first encounter" success rate above 50%. It's fast and pretty stress-free.

Good luck!

I will not get into details on here but I consider my 2003 car to be way above average condition with very low miles <30

How do you deal with these people?
these days you need to have more patience especially when you are selling a car that the market is flooded with not to mention the internet allows every freak in the world to make a play at your car.
newer porsches(post 1998)are a dime a dozen and educated buyers know that.
auctions are a joke and a rip off (when you factor in their sales cut and entry fees/costs involved getting car to auction)unless of course you have a very special expensive model - ebay auction has gone downhill and most people who bid and win don't follow thru with the sale unless it is a very good deal.

advertize on craigslist, put a listing on the PELICAN FORUM and also this forum and let your local porsche dealership know the car is available - take your time and understand that annoying lowballers are part of the process. be patient and it may take a month or 2 to sell but eventually you should find someone who is serious.

You are asking $38,500. Might be a bit aggressive. Also, you need interior pics on Autotrader. 3 photos won't get anyone's interest. Put up enough photos to represent the entire car. Just my 2 cents.

$38k for an '03 hard top? That's extremely high. Even if car was original owner, all options, etc... it's very high. I would closer to $28,500 than $38,500.

How do I deal with these people? I don't after the 2-3rd time being jerked off, I never call them back or Our schedules just never seem to work out any more. Then after the car is sold I take the call and tell them I sold it for 1/2 of what I was asking.

Default What's the new norm?

After selling a Florida condo and two cars myself over the past two years, I'm a bit shell shocked. In the process, we met some of the most pleasant people you can imagine and some of the biggest a******s I've ever encountered.

So what's the new norm? Don't know, but now I'm pretty much cured of the For Sale By Owner syndrome.

OK, just accepted an offer for 36.5 I'm happy with that. I had 3 standing offers of 35K. For those who were curious it was a 2003 C4S Coupe, 6-speed, Guards Red with 30,800 miles. 10K in options.

I appreciate everyone's input.

Gonzo 911, I see you found my AD, good advice
Sparks, Sahrk Attack, lol
SacTownGuy, Bite me. Just kidding

This is my first time not owning a Porsche since 2001 so for now, i'm Porscheless IDK for how long though.

Has any one seen the new Boxster S in person

Wow that's a great price; honestly a bit surprised you got that - the buyer must've been looking for that color and options.

Usually the times you run into issues like the ones you described in the o/p is when the seller is asking museum-collection-mint money for a car that's not just not there.

JH3...Congrats! Your price is a great comp for my car. Could prices in AZ actually be going up? A year ago you would not have smelled anything over $32k. You did great!

Lucky I am not a car salesperson as I obviously don't know the market. I would call that price shockingly high but good for you.
