That said, you might not have wanted it, as the one they offered me was $8600 I ended up with a similar warranty called Tech Choice Ultra which cost "only" $4600.

That's a good deal if you don't know how to fix your car. Otherwise, you can fix ALOT for $4600.

Perhaps, assuming one's time is worth no more than a mechanic's hourly labour rate. I'm quite capable of sorting my own car, in fact I could design and machine the spares for it if necessary. But $4600 translates to roughly thirty minutes in an operating theatre, so it would be patently stupid of me to consider working on my own car from an economic standpoint. Not to mention the catastrophic risk should I happen to injure my hand(s) in the process.

The dealer I had it towed to wanted $433 just for the pump and gasket, $88 for the thermostat, and $38 for a gallon of coolant. Their prices are 60% higher than Suncoast. And that's just the parts. Their labor, same job mind you, is 1.6 times the other dealer's charge.
Was it Momentum Porsche on the SW freeway?

Translated into Canadian, operating theatre=operating room. O.R. That room in a hospital (excuse me, hotel dieu) with the bright lights where surgery is done.

I see why you're confused. You see, unlike Canada and the UK with socialised healthcare, here in the US the hourly incomes of surgeons is higher than that of auto mechanics. At least for the time being.

Would it have killed you to say operating room right from the begining? Using an industry lingo and then talking down to someone that ask, what the hell it means, is low.

My pay per hour is more than mechanics too but that doesn't stop me from working on all my cars. There are plenty others that make a living with their hands turn a wrench in their free time. I wouldn't use that as an excuse. Just say its not your cup of tea and that's it.

Picking my car up today after having the waterpump replaced, a LNE low temp thermostat installed, and a tire valve stem replaced - total cost out the door is $1332.86. Ouch! Expensive peace of mind, but worth it.

My assumption was that everyone on this forum was intelligent enough to either know what operating theatre meant, or to google it if they didn't. What you're saying is that I should have "talked down" to you in the first place

Quite the contrary it is indeed my cup of tea, especially given a background in mechanical engineering. My reason for not doing so is entirely financial. I can earn more in an hour than what it would cost me to have a mechanic replace just about anything other than an engine. And then there's the risk of a career-ending injury to my hands.

Yeah sort of makes you wonder why he's even in the 996 forums in the first place. lol

With that kind of change, I'd be scouring the 991 forums all the time. And yes I do not subscribe to Warren Buffet's thinking of keeping around old cars because I'm an auto enthusiast and he's not.
