The 993 guys say the same thing about 996's.

I'd be glad to have a 991 but I guess different strokes for different folks....

Hmm... we just call it the "O.R.". An operating theater, as I remember, was the viewing deck at a teaching hospital for surgical interns. And no, not everybody is going to know that, but it hardly means they are any less intelligent if they don't.

Back on topic ... sorry for the interruption ...

I am considering purchasing a 996, this weekend, but palmbeacher is giving me pause. Presently I have a BMW 1989 635csi in absolute perfect condition. And there comes a certain bit of "snobbery" with owning a "nice" car, I get it. So let me translate what zman2002 said when he posted "DB", just in case your (palmbeacher) hands are too fragile to google, smart guy. DOUCHEBAG. YOU and your attitude are the reason that people cringe when well-to-do Americans walk into a room overseas. Consider selling me your car so you can go buy another (what you think) is an elitist car, and just leave...

I would not kick it out of the garage, but the 993s stay.

Aedolfan... it may be that palmbeacher is not being polite, but it is also not polite to sign up only to post what you did.

I agree 100%. If I had it my way, there would be the latest and best 993 I could find next to a 991 in the garage. The reality for a lot of us(in this particular forum) is that the 996 model represents one of the best values and a very good starting point of entry into the Porsche world. I can't see anyone with a huge amount of liquid cash wanting a 996 as their first choice but I could be wrong....

Bonster...Your right, I apologize. Like I eluded to, I am picking up my first Porsche this weekend, I just hope I am not going to get treated like a palmbeacher when I ask what some may feel is a silly question...Again, please pardon my lack of politeness.

I actually love the 996s - I just wish they didn't have that pesky radiator and water pump thingee. I like the modernized shape and the headlights. If this is your "starter car", I would say you are doing pretty good. My starter car was a Miata.

Aedolfan ... folks should treat you just fine as long as you do the same. And if you come across some who doesn't reciprocate that kindness, I would not waste your valuable time on them. Most Porsche people are actually pretty nice folks. But like any group, there will be snobs, too. I ignore them.

Two posts and the second is to insult. Off to a rollicking start I'd say. And I am not American, I merely live and practise here...legally I might add. People do not "cringe when well-to-do Americans walk into a room overseas". They cringe at Americans with the lack of breeding and absence of class such that they refer to others in terms of a vaginal cleansing apparatus.

Palmbeacher ... I deleted the duplicate (I am guessing there was a software glitch) and the guy apologized in the next post. Can we please get back on topic now?
